Well..... I haven't found one editor without bugs. Resolve has the steep learning curve and you need a really beefy computer to do what I do, edit in 4K. It's learning curve is steep. No way around it. Yeah, it has a lot of "stuff" with the free version, but you will be spending a lot of time learning "how" to use it. And yes, it too crashes.
Vegas Pro....I've been using it quite successfully since VP14. I have Boris FX Continuum Complete 2020.5, Sapphire, NBFX, Ignite Pro, Red Giant MagicBullet Looks, Vitascene. I do a lot of compositing with it. I have to say, timeline editing is really fast.
Magix Pro X edits the same as VS.. The Humble Bundle is a "steal" and gives you Vegas Movie Studio too.
Premiere Pro.... you pay until you die. Stop paying, and you no longer can edit anything, including past projects you did with the software.
I also have Pinnacle Studio Pro 23 Ultimate. I also have PS24, but do not use it. It seems that with most software, getting the first upgrade is problematic. It's best to wait for a patch or two before considering getting it.
Everything has issues.. some might affect you, some might not. Most long time editors have several "tools" in the toolbox. Use the right tool for the right job. I find support comes better in the user forums and faster. Side note: PD monitors it's forum and has been known to delete problems.

After many years of using Sony Vegas Pro I must admit I'm very satisfied with DaVinci Resolve 16. What's great about DaVinci is that it works on Linux. I'm trying to fully get rid of Windows and from what I can tell I'm almost there. I've had enough of telemetry and who knows what else Microsoft is doing...

Sony hasn't owned Vegas in 4 years. Magix is now the parent company but VEGAS works independently on development.
I have too many programs that will only work in Windows, so Linux is out of the question for "me".
Since it was free (and for me, the cost of the full version is no problem), I tried Resolve several times. Even invested in a training course to try and get up to speed with it faster. But still, I wound up uninstalling it. Just not for me at this time. And yes, it did crash on my computer, and had problems with some of the OFX plugins I use like Boris Continuum 2020.5. But these are my personal experiences and perception of the software.

As for M$ gathering info, there are ways to end that.... but then with their next update, you might have to repeat the process again.

Those that want to try a consumer version of Vegas, Vegas Movie Studio 16, you can get it with the Humble Bundle along with Magix Pro X 11 and Soundforge Studio, etc.. for like $25 HERE. You do not get the "addons" but last years version of the software.
I was interested in Magix Pro X for some time. This was a cheap way of seeing what it's like to use. And yes, a lot of my OFX plugins showed up in it.

Just one day left on this deal....

Just as long as you realize that there is already a Movie Studio 17 which I've had now for several months...

I preferred the Magix Video Pro X since I already had both MS Pro Platinum 16 AND 17...
