VS X10 Time clock troubles
Hi guys
Help please.
I have a clip that is 5m 34s long and want to insert time clock to show the elapsing time.
However it seems to run too fast and says the clip is 9m18 long.
How do I get time clock to accurately reflect the real length of the clip please?
Video shot at 50fps 1080p
Many thanks

Why? did you apply speed to it? did you shot it at 120fps?

Re: VS X10 Time clock troubles
Hi
When we use the FX Time Clock – Customise uses keyframes
The default effect is 10 second count down
If we play that on a 5 second clip the effect will fun 50% / half way
If you now Customise the filter the cursor is in the middle of the timeline.
Selecting another timer will add that to a new keyframe in the middle
That messes up the effect and could have 2 timers being used
Clear as mud
Ok from the main timeline make sure your cursor is at the beginning of the clip ( press the Home button)
Then do Customise, if the cursor is in the middle, move to the beginning, now choose an effect
And yes I am having some strange things going on with setting the timers, I’m sure if I work on it I will grasp the right key combinations to set this effect
I would say it’s a bug and needs special treatment.
I am having big trouble using the red count down option
Which effect did you need to use?
Ok
I am now testing 50fps video and things do not get any better the timers are nearly double the durations, as your observations.
Also the effect appears to be set to Use NTSC so 60fps would be more accurate, but still double
A 30fps timeline may be the most accurate, but we are Pal using 25 or 50fps
Now I am confused

Re: VS X10 Time clock troubles
Hi Mike
I have a workround
1 / start a new project using 25fps
2 / add a colour clip and apply the FX Timer, there is a train timer option, last thumbnail
3 / that effect should work so save the project as say "10 second timer"
4 / Open your existing project using 50fps
5 / import the "10 second timer.vsp" to the library
Now drag and drop whilst holding the Shift Key to drop as a flattened clip.
Timer plays correctly on 50fps project.
Oh I also used Chroma key to remove the background colour

Re: VS X10 Time clock troubles
I don't understand the issue.
First you untick the dreadful "use keyframes" NB default (which is a nuisance in all NB FX)
Than set all your preferred settings I get correct length of any trimmed clip.
** Is it a 50fps thing? I can't find a sample file here, I'll try different disk

Re: VS X10 Time clock troubles
Looks like it can't work with 50fps, Trevor used 25fps and it worked.
Interestings issue.

Mike, you will have to explain again in short your issue.MikesMovies wrote:Looks like it can't work with 50fps, Trevor used 25fps and it worked.
Interestings issue.
I just took my action cam out and shot 1080/60 clip.
I dragged it into X9 25fps project, trimmed a bit both ends and applied LTC . What problem should I look for?

Re: VS X10 Time clock troubles
Hi
OK, I have a 5m34s long clip and wanted to insert time clock to show the elapsing time. 0 - 5.34
However it seems to run too fast and says the clip is 9m18 long at the end, where it should be saying 5m34s.
Thanks

Re: VS X10 Time clock troubles
It is not the video files fault it is the project properties settings
Have you set the project properties to use 60fps
When using Pal 25fps or NTSC 30fps, no problems
Using NTSC 60fps and the timer doubles the time.
Using 50fps 10 sec clip the timer increases the time but not quite double just over 16 seconds

Re: VS X10 Time clock troubles
OK, maybe these 2 things
Remove the key frame and set fps to 0.
And now what you get?
And now what you get?

Re: VS X10 Time clock troubles
Hi
I ran another test setting my project properties to use 25fps although my clip on the timeline was using 50fps
I am testing 50fps as Mike is also using 50fps
Project Properties using 25fps allowed the time clock to function correctly on the timelines.
The clip was 00:00:25:22, the time clock also showed 00:25:22
I then rendered my project to use Same as First Clip, the time clock now shows 00:43:03 although the video remains 00:00:25:22
And there is an additional problem when working with the Count Down option, sometimes the counter remains at zero.
I do not have this issue using the Train Time, that option I thought would interest Mike
