psp opening multiple images separately

Post by miltk »

when i try to open more than one image, psp opens each separately rather than all together. this never happened before and just started happening recently.

Can you please clarify "separately" and "all together"?

AFAIK, each image in its own window is the default behavior when opening multiple images. If you mean each image being a separate layer in an existing pic, then you need to drag them into the layers palette of the already open picture (drag them right above any of the existing layers).

Or maybe you mean that you can only see one at the time, instead of seeing them all at once. If that is the case, go to Window > Tabbed Document and uncheck that.

sorry. did not know how to explain it. if I open say multiple images, whether at once or any additional images, another psp will open with each image, not one psp with multiple windows. in other words one psp per image. I saw nothing in preferences....can it be a windows7 issue?

Tabbed document is a new feature in the new versions of PSP. You are using a very old version.

You say "When I open 2 images" but you don't say how you open the images.
Do you open Windows Explorer and click on the images in a folder?
Do you open them inside PSP with File/Open?
In this last case, if you select the 2 files and open them, do you see them both on your workspace?

when i hilite multiple image files at once and "open". like say i have some images on the desktop..or i open a folder with multiple image, select a few images, and then hit "open". or, as per your example, if i go to explorer, go to a folder, hilite a few images and right click "open". i do not open files within psp unless i am browsing. psp is the default program to open all images, so i just click on an image, or if i intend to open multiple images, i select and right click open.

if i open psp first, browse to a folder and hilite several images, they all open in tiles. but as i said this does not happen if i open images thru explorer or any other way

btw, if i make corel pspx6 the default program, it's fine. x6 will open multiple images. but i don't like corel. i can't see the menu - too small

this started happening a week ago

Try Open with one image.
Then open a folder with other images and choose the number of images and drag and drop them to the PSP 7 workspace.
That should act as a workaround and keep them all in the same opened PSP7.

I know up to PSP 8 if you had the jpg images associated with that version of PSP would could open multiple instances of PSP8 and have them operating and operate by switching from one window to the other.
However you don't want multiple versions of the same program running and need them to open in the one version.

It may be a setting in Windows that allows an image to open with one click rather than a double click.

i can open psp then drag multiple images. i cannot drag multiple images to a psp shortcut....an annoyance. this should not be happening in the first place. i should have used a restore point when this all started.
