Issue with smart selection brush

Lately, when trying to use the smart selection brush on an image, PSP 2020 freezes completely and I have to use task manager to close down and then re-start.
Any clues, please?

Does it happen always, or in very large images? Also, how long do you wait before killing PSP?

In my experience, large images (especially those with many layers/adjustment layers/masks) cause brushing hiccups in PSP, no matter the brushing tool. Sometimes it happens with not that large images too. Usually if you wait like 30-45 seconds or so, things come back to normal (until the next hiccup... lol).

I really hope Corel will re-do the brushing engine some day.

It happens with every size of image.
I select the brush, then when I want to move the selection, PSP just freezes completely. I cannot even close the window and have to use Task Manager to close it down.

Try resetting to default as that tends to cure a multitude of issues. Here are the directions in case you need them. They reference X6 but will work for your version.

Does reset apply to the whole program? Will I have to adjust my other settings?

Yes, it resets the whole program to default. If you choose to do this it's a good idea to save your workspace first.

You could also try to simply reset the brush tool itself to see if that helps. Click on Smart Selection icon and then Presets. Click on the curved arrow icon to reset the brush.
