When I capture clips into VideoStudio, the video and audio stutter in random places throughout the video. I am using the DV port on my computer to capture.
I have posted about this problem before, person told me to change capture option to DV-Type 1, this did not work.
Video Stuttering

The standard advice for this issue is: defragment your hard drive, turn OFF any other program that may run intermittently (screen saver etc), disconnect from the internet (especially if you have a DSL connection, some programs like to 'call home' occasionally to check for updates).
In short: video capture is hellishly resource-intensive. Anything that can distract the computer is bad and must be stopped.
Hope that helps.

DV capture from a Firewire port is just about the least taxing way of getting video into your PC since the system doesn't have to do any encoding -- all it has to do is read data from the source device and write it to disk.
If there are stalls or dropped frames when viewing the captured video (don't go by the live preview!), your hard drive may not be able to keep up with the I/O going on, or another CPU-intensive process keeps the capture program from running frequently enough to keep up with the Firewire bus. Insufficient RAM and the resulting constant swapping will also cause problems.
As the last poster said, try to shut off as much background stuff as possible. Also consider excluding the capture directory from Antivirus checks if your AV program permits this (most do), and turn off the Disk Indexing Service, since this can place a heavy burden on I/O performance.
You may also want to post some details about your system configuration.

if you have norton internet security 2005 it is hellishly difficult to disable any of its programs running in the background. if you try and stop it now you are told you cant do it from task manager.
other than removing Norton 2005 how do you stop an anti-virus program running? THoffs posting was not very clear on this.
