Intermittent Missing Sound in Ediiting

Post by mosscomes »

I'm new to VideoStudio (2019) and I am still learning the ropes. Today, I have a new issue. After I put a video (or two or three for that matter) that I want to edit in timeline, there is no sound. The files play in VLC so the system sound isn't muted. I right click on properties and the tab says "none," and there are no sound options I can select.

I've tried renaming files, no go. I even reinstalled the program. Also no go.

Other videos have sound in timeline. Most are mp4's.

What am I doing wrong?

It would be interesting to know if the missing audio is 5.1 Dolby. You could check by putting one of the problem clips into the (free) MediaInfo program. For some strange reason, Corel is withdrawing support for Dolby audio. With Windows 10, which you have, they have only withdrawn support so far for 5.1 audio -- though I would have thought normally this would be substituted with dual channel stereo audio, not silence...

Well, that looks like the common denominator. First channel AAC LC, Second Channel Dolby AC-3. But I do have at least one AC-3 that works. So much for using Videostudioro for easily converting some old family VCR tapes. Not excited about using another program to pull the audio out. May ho back to my old (2017) version of Nero.

If they are old VCR tapes, then they wouldn't have Dolby to start with. What are you using to capture them? I am wondering where the AC-3 is coming from since it wouldn't be on the original tapes...

Hi
I suspect it may be the audio codec that video studio does not like, I doubt that will be Digital Dolby as Ken mentions VHS would not use DD AC3
Can you use Media Info to check the video properties especially the Audio properties.
https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

What device did you use to transfer the VHS to the pc, and can you change/modify the capture settings. I assume the vhs was connected using RCA cables

If Video Studio was also used it would only replicate the devices video properties.
The last time I transferred VHS ( a long time ago) I used a camcorder with Passthrough aka video throughput as an AV / DV converter gave the best quality, although firewire was used for the pc end.
Mpeg2 or DV capture options

I also used a EzCap device that transfers RCA via USB, Video Studio again limited to the device capabilities to set the capture properties the only video format being DVD MPEG2 SD
