Remove odd black color in Text
In the attached photo from PSP 2018 there is an odd black color added to my text. I did not put it there - all the text is supposed to be gold with a slight shadow. I am not using 'stroke' and my settings did not change from the previous image which had no black in the text. I am wondering if the program has gotten corrupted because this same black color appears in other images where I use text. I am also wondering if I somehow have gotten some black color added to the clipboard and it is automatically showing up every time I use text. Any suggestions on what is causing the black coloring and how to get rid of it would be appreciated.

Re: Remove odd black color in Text
Welcome to the forum!
As a first quick and easy step, you could try resetting the program. With PSP closed, hold the Shift key down when clicking on the PSP desktop icon to open it. You will be asked if you want to reset. Say OK, and when open, try the text again to see if that strange black is still there.
Before you reset, though, make sure you save any customized workspace you may have created as otherwise it will be lost in the reset.

Re: Remove odd black color in Text
Perhaps some more information.
What font are you using?
Haw are you trying to get the shadow / drop shadow? Thhrough Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow , OR through Layer Style - double click the text layer and apply drop shadow.
I notice you have a 3 D effect with the text as well so you may have used Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel OR Layer Style > Bevel?
Have you by any chance used the Pick tool to change the size / scale of the text after using the Layer Style > Bevel ? I have found that this puts in black areas and suspect it may be a bug of sorts.

Could you post here a screen capture of the Materials Palette and the Toolbar Options when your Text tool is active?

Re: Remove odd black color in Text
In my experience, PSP often screws up layer styles after Undoing (even irrelevant things).
Is it possible you have Undone stuff after assigning layer styles on your text? Fortunately layer styles are non-destructive, so if that has happened to your case and you still have the source .pspimage saved, try opening it and then disable and re-enable the style that causes the issue (probably the drop shadow in your case). If that doesn't work, try saving the .pspimage with the shadow disabled, and close PSP. Run it again, open the .pspimage, and enable the shadow. Long shot maybe, but it happens to me often and that's how i "fix" it.

Re: Remove odd black color in Text
Ok to duplicate what the OP has try this.:
1. New document say 800 x 800 pixels white background (background color does not matter)
2. Text tool , type in some words and apply.
3. Double click the layer and apply Layer style > Bevel Size 20 , Opacity 50 and click OK.
4. You will see a bounding box much like the pick tool. Resizing by using the corner or size nodes works as normal. Now try using the centre top or bottom nodes to make the text taller , too much and you get the black lines through the text.
Is this repeatable , and is this a bug?
It started in PSP X6 and does not occur in earlier versions.
Even if you resize the text and only apply the bevel at the end it still occurs.

Re: Remove odd black color in Text
Ok an update. It occurs with the 32 bit versions only from PSP X6 to PSP 2020. So work around for OP is to use the 64 bit version of PSP 2028.
