Making Digital Album of Family Photos

I'm using PSP2020 and I'm scanning our family photos laid out on a flatbed scanner with 6-8 photos placed side by side per scan.
I've given each scan a unique grouping file name.
I then open the file containing all the photos on that scan, then use PSP to Crop each individual photo from the grouping.
I then name the individual photo with a "Save As".
When it saves the individual photo, my original grouping photo goes away requiring me to go back to where I have them saved and start all over again to get the second, third, forth, etc. photos.
Am I missing something or is there a way to get the system to keep my original group file in the edit area until I'm finished selecting and Cropping each individual photo?
