MP4 file compatability
I'm sure this has been discussed numerous times and hopefully it's an easy question. I'm running VS X4 and ran into an issue with being able to import mp4 files. I have a converter that I'm using to convert to mpeg which works but it's time consuming. I assume newer versions of VS are mp4 compatible? Thanks for any info.

Of course as this is a widely used video format. However, you can easily check the video formats supported in VS2020 (http://help.corel.com/videostudio/en/us ... o-2020.pdf).KennyJ5419 wrote: I assume newer versions of VS are mp4 compatible?
Did this work before? If so what has changed, e.g. source of video clips, system' OS, etc.?KennyJ5419 wrote:I'm running VS X4 and ran into an issue with being able to import mp4 files.

Re: MP4 file compatability
I used VS x4 extensively back in the day, including with MP4 files. I have many videos on YouTube that I shot using MP4 files and edited in VS x4... including a couple of tutorials on editing techniques. VS x4 definitely works with MP4 files, but there could be something about your MP4 files that the software (or the firmware in your computer) doesn't like. Have you tried a different MP4 encoding in your camera to see if that makes a difference? For example, you may be able to select a data rate of either 24 Mbps or 20 Mbps for HD (1080p) video. Try selecting a different data rate and see if that makes a difference with VS x4.

Re: MP4 file compatability
We used to always record our videos on a camcorder that recorded videos to an avchd format which imported fine. Now we primary record videos on our Galaxy S7 and S8 phones and those files are in an mp4 format. I'll check into the camera settings on our phones. Maybe I can change the data rate that the videos are saved with so that VS can import them without having to convert them from mp4 to mpeg format. Thanks everyone.

Re: MP4 file compatability
I suspect it may be that your Galaxy phones may be recording with a variable frame rate, which VS does not like. It prefers (or will only accept) standard frame rates set by international convention: like 25 fps and 50 fps for PAL and 29.97 (or 30) fps and 59.94 (60) fps for NTSC.
Use a program like the free MediaInfo to check the frame rates of your original video from the phones (i.e. not as converted)... If the rates are not exactly as I outlined above, check the phone to see if there is a setting to use a fixed frame rate.

Re: MP4 file compatability
On occasion I had problems with some mp4 files in VS. I reconverted them using "Video to Video Converter" and then they worked fine.
This is an old converter, but still better than most you can buy today. https://videotovideo.org/download/
