Hello,
I'm wondering if there is a piece of software that would allow me re-name mts files to their default number?
also along the same lines, I'm looking for a same software that would allow me to mass alter the time when the file was taken?
I have 250 of these files taken on a video shoot today.
I look forward to your thoughts.
Thanks
Rob

Re: Software to rename mts files and also change time
Hi Rob
I don’t understand why? can you give an example of the names for your video.mts files
My camcorder defaults to using 0000.MTS -- 00001.MTS - 00002.MTS
I can import / copy these to my hard drive, then Insert to Video Studio timelines where those names would be used.
My next recording to a new SD card creates the same names, a little care not to overwrite toe older files.
Using Insert Digital Media will rename the files to use a date/time format, (200227_160949_import.m2t) unique to each file.
Some find the name a little long although it does give info for the shooting date.
Windows Explorer can batch rename the files, as can PSP, many other options.
and if you wish to return to the original 0000.MTS -- 00001.MTS - 00002.MTS formats then Bulk Rename would do that, a bit of a learning curve using this software
Changing the shooting date time cannot be done easily as the info is embedded in the files meta data.
And again why would you want to do that.
Otherwise import the files again from the SD card, Copy and Paste to your hard drive, then Insert Video to the timelines or library.
The files should be here on SD \PRIVATE\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM
Do not use Insert Digital Media
Rob, I have moved your post to the Video Studio forums where it should get a better response.

Re: Software to rename mts files and also change time
At Lata,
Well its easy - I formatted my memory card but then my camera decided to produce blank video files on the card u (unknown to me when I got home) so it resulted that the file names renamed themselves and not the default name in what they should be.
And for the reason to change the time and date - well easy enough because I forgot to change the time setting in my camera!
Cheers

Re: Software to rename mts files and also change time
Hi Rob
And whats the problem with the names the camera used?
For my MTS the camera uses the name 0000.mts as I mentioned earlier, if I need to use the same format then Bulk Rename will do that.
https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/
In fact will rename to any combination you like, a bit of a learning curve
If you are happy with Windows Explorer to batch rename then try that
Run a test on a few samples saved to a temp folder
Select all files and rename the first file in that selection, all files will then have a suffix number added. example 0000 (1).JPG --0000 (2).JPG
It is important to rename the first file in the selection.

Hiya - I'm looking at that program now
I have 164 Files in there at the moment and I want to rename them (at the start 00062) until the end where it should automatically end on the last number how do I do this?
And like wise for changing the time stamp as well?

Re: Software to rename mts files and also change time
Hi
Open Bulk Rename
A little daunting but start by locating your folder containing your files, browse panel top left.
These will show on the top panel listed Under Names, select the first file
The New Name panel will show any changes.
The panels to the bottom have names and numbers to the left is Name (2)
Set the Name to Remove- notice your selection at the top panel
Now go to panel Numbering (10)
Mode – Insert at 1
Start – 62 Incr. 1
Pad - 5
Break – 0
Now view the top panel
Ctrl + A will select all your files which should have the new names
I think that will do it.
When you are happy with the results hit the Rename button
Try it out on a sample folder.
You cannot change the time stamp that is embedded to the file during recordings

Re: Software to rename mts files and also change time
There's no need for special software as you can use the command line to rename files. The following example renames all ".mts" files leaving the first three characters (which works as a unique identifier to avoid duplication) and appends "-hikingTrails" to the name:RobCharles1981 wrote:I'm wondering if there is a piece of software that would allow me re-name mts files to their default number?
c:\ren *.mts ???-hikingTrip.*
Use an EXIF editor to bulk change the files' EXIF.RobCharles1981 wrote:I'm looking for a same software that would allow me to mass alter the time when the file was taken?

Re: Software to rename mts files and also change time
A file's EXIF metadata including time stamp are editable unless the time stamp was put directly on the video stream during recording (this is mainly done on surveillance video).lata wrote:You cannot change the time stamp that is embedded to the file during recordings
