Right Click to Screen Capture Has Stopped Working
HI folks
Now... don't laugh... I use every day, and HAVE used every day for many years, Paint Shop Pro 9 (from 2004!) It is the absolute best, most stable program I have used to browse, edit, and so on. In comparison, my experience with PsP2020 was a nightmare that resulted in a refund. (I do have PsPx9 as a more up-to-date version just in case I have to use a large TIFF, etc)
That aside, I have a simple problem who's solution may apply to all versions.
I often use the right-click screen-capture feature. But for some unknown reason, the task no longer works with a right-click! Could this have something to do with an unknown change made to my workspace, perhaps while trying to get the failed PsP2020 install to work?
Odd thing is, the DELAY TIMER still works. It's just the right-click technique that doesn't... and I need it back...
Thoughts? Should I somehow reset the program then load my favorite workspace? Works properly in PsPx9, by the way...
JD

Re: Right Click to Screen Capture Has Stopped Working
I stopped using right click because that is often used for context menus. I switched to using F10 as that seemed to have no other function on a regular desktop and keyboard.

Re: Right Click to Screen Capture Has Stopped Working
I tried that, reassigning the function to an "F" key. But it still didn't work.
Not sure if that is because some screens, like many websites, don't work well with the capture tool, even when the right-click works properly. You have to click on just the right area to get a capture.

Re: Right Click to Screen Capture Has Stopped Working
I do a lot of screen captures, not only within PSP but from websites, etc. And for all my captures I use the free Greenshot screen capture tool Very small footprint, highly configurable, ability to either choose your capture type from where the button resides on your status bar or using configurable keyboard shortcuts, and more. You can check it out here:

Re: Right Click to Screen Capture Has Stopped Working
I just do <shift><PRNT SCRN> then <ctrl><C>, move to PSP, <ctrl><V>, then use the Crop tool to get what I want. Takes a few strokes, but it is one less app installed.

Hey, that works! If I can just remember the steps...ehume wrote:I just do <shift><PRNT SCRN> the <ctrl><C>, move to PSP, <ctrl><V>, then use the Crop tool to get what I want.
I think the use of function keys goes over the head of people of a certain age group, OR people who just don't have jobs that are computer intensive.
I still want to figure out just why the thing doesn't work properly anymore... bothers me...

Re: Right Click to Screen Capture Has Stopped Working
I was remembering incorrectly. In PSP 7.04 it was <shift><PRNTSCRN> then paste <ctrl><V>.
In more modern PSPs, it was <shift><PRNTSCRN> then right-click to paste as a new image.
It turns out that copy <ctrl><C> is included in <shift><PRNTSCRN>.
Of course, you then use the Crop tool to trim to taste.

Re: Right Click to Screen Capture Has Stopped Working
I tend to use (in Windows 10) SHIFT/WindowsKey/S to access the Windows snip tool. It is quite flexible and can even capture across multiple monitors. Also, it works for all applications and I don't have to remember different key strokes whether it is PSP, web browser etc.

That explains a "beep" I was getting... I was doing something already done, the COPY function. I never knew the Print Screen worked for anything other than WORD!ehume wrote:I was remembering incorrectly. In PSP 7.04 it was <shift><PRNTSCRN> then paste <ctrl><V>.

Re: Right Click to Screen Capture Has Stopped Working
It's a Windows-wide function. It's been around at least 20 years.

Re: Right Click to Screen Capture Has Stopped Working
Curious... did it ever actually "print a screen"?

Re: Right Click to Screen Capture Has Stopped Working
Yes it did, kind of. It sent all of the screen text memory to the printer from the commandline. There was also an "echo" feature, that would automatically print everything that was sent to the screen as it was put to the screen. Of course back then our dot-matrix-printers had those perferated sheets which made banners really easy to print. So continuous printing of single lines was do-able.
