Hello.
I did the upgrade to VS2020 Ultimate from VS2019 Ultimate, back in February.
Nothing has changed on my PC except that my DVD drive died, but before I realized that, when I run VS, it takes a long time to load, and sometimes I get the Logo and then it never loads.
Sometimes I click on the VSP file that I created using VS2020 instead of going File> Open Project and click the file, and it loads in VS2019 instead of VS2020.
Other times I'm creating a project and after adding an overlay, when I scrub or play the project, it doesn't show the overlay.
This morning I made a screen recording and used both my webcam and recorded the screen. This is the first time I've done the split-screen option with VS2020.
When I put the video together in VS2020, it worked fine when I played it in the Time-Line but when I rendered it, the video from the screen recording is missing from the video and just the webcam recording is there.
I went back to re-render to mp4 and chose "Same as Project" and it showed the overlay track, but there wasn't any sound.
I just went back and changed the project to:
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 8000 Kbps, 16:9
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps
And then used "Same as Project" and that solved that issue.
However, I saved the project and exited again, then tried running the project by double-clicking on the VSP file, and nothing happened. I opened VS2020 and then double-clicked the VSP file, and it did load it.
I just tried to create a project using a custom Insta-project I had made previously, and VS2020 crashed without any errors.
So I double-clicked on the VSP file I'd created earlier above, and it opened in VS2019.
Opened VS2020 again and tried another Instaproject and the overlays aren't working.
Anyone else having these issues?
Thanks.
Mathis...

Re: Having several issues with VS2020
Hi
Sorry for the delay in our replies
Your post does have several different issues which for me is causing some confusion, addressing all in the same post is going to cause the same.
I would suggest you make separate posts for each issue.
I’ll comment on the launch of 2019 instead of 2020
File associations………
Generally, the last version installed takes preference in launching when double clicking a VSP file
I would always install different versions from oldest first, of course the files association with a particular version can go wrong.
Question is did you install 2019 after 2020.
There are some work rounds,
1 / re-install 2020,
2 / tweak the registry entries although I am not sure where to look there.
3 / Disable 2019 by renaming the Vstudio.exe to Vstudio_old.exe
Then right click a VSP for open with – choose another app – always use this program – locate the Vstudio.exe for 2020
2020 should launch with the vsp open
Close and reboot the pc
Rename the 2019 Vstudio_old.exe to Vstudio.exe
Please note afaik VSP created and or saved using 2020 will not open using 2019, yes the program may launch but the VSP will not open. Take care when opening your 2019 VSP’s in 2020
