Video Studio 2020 freezing

Post by achterberg »

Hi

Currently I have Video Studio X6 installed and no problems importing 2 32G sd cards and complete the process to burning a DVD. I have tried the trial version of Video Studio 2020 to no avail. It keeps going super slow once i have uploaded the the sd cards. In the end I have to shut down the computer at the on off switch on the computer. When I do get the Task manager it gives a message that my memory is too low however I have 16GB of memory as well as 1.2TB empty on my hard drives.
I have installed and uninstalled the program at least 4 times including using different drives, but same problem occurs.

I initially contacted Corel to ask whether projects created in X6 would work on 2020 and told yes. When contacted about the problem Corel then said to try and reload the videos and not use the X6 project as they are not compatible (why did they not state that in the first place? instead of me wasting hours at that stage). I followed their directives and reload the the SD cards and the same problem occurs. It appears that it is conflicting with the memory. Very disappointed with Corel as they now suggesting that the trial version is the problem and I should buy the full version. Sorry but after wasting over 20 hours I have given up and not willing to give them any money.

I don't understand what you are trying to do and what you are doing.
You post that you are " uploaded the the sd cards". Uploading what to where? Do mean that you have some video files on the SD cards and you are adding them to your project?
If yes then you should first of all copy the files from the cards to your hard drive and add from there. It will be much faster and you can remove the SD cards and keep them as backup. How long in time is your project? At what point does it say your memory is too low?

Went into video studio and uploaded the video files from card into vedio studio. The project generally 6hours but also tried 2 hours. The program generally goes real slo when in the edit part of the program, i then try and bring up task manager and after a couple of tries, task manager comes up and shows me a memory warning.

You DO NOT upload SD cards direct into VS, copy the SD cards to a folder on your desktop, then import into VS, which is what canuck was trying to explain to you

Forget about trying to work on a 6 hour project. No wonder the program hangs
Explain what kind of files you are adding to your project. What format, where do they come from? What kind of project are you doing?

hi

No 1 done this with Video Studio x6 no problems at all. I uploaded the 2 so cards, then split them into approx 3 to 4 projects.
No 2 video is created in a JVC camera
No 3 we go overseas every year and take videos. I did 5 years worth a seperate projects. Each project has 2 sd cards and converts to 3 to 4 dvd for each trip.

BOTTOM LINE IS VIDEO STUDIO X6 DOES IT WITH NO PROBLEM. VIDEO STUDIO 2020 DOES NOT

You keep saying "uploaded sd cards". What precisely do you mean by that?? explain steps . . . .

Every response so far is telling you to:
- import the files from the sd card to VS (running on your PC). In the timeline, rt click, choose import video file, navigate to the drive/folder where the files are and choose/select one or many of them as you like, click OK and then the selected ones will appear in the timeline of the project; OR
- copy the video files from the SD card to an HDD folder on your PC
and then import to VS. If you break the files down for different projects, then all you need to do for one of those projects is import just the files you want to use for it - not all of them.

Either way will work; I've lost count of the times I've done that over the last 10 years. But if you are using HD files on the sd card, then any related smart proxy files that are created in the folder on the PC will be erased if you start VS without that sd card being installed/plugged in to the PC when VS is started.

Lastly, 6rs is a large vsp for editing. The max allowable in VS is 10hours, but that's inconvenient to say the least. Perhaps you could focus on smaller files - say 1 hour or less, render each one, and combine them on a DVD or USB device using the share panel choices for disk. That would also allow you to create a menu for the content.

I confess I was also a bit confused about uploading SD cards. I was of course worried that he was uploading direct to VS, thinking that that was transferring the video from card to PC. It is, of course, not doing so. Everything in VS is virtual, with the videos being edited remaining untouched wherever they are stored. So of course, if he removed the SD card at some stage and didn't replace it, or it was assigned another drive letter by his PC, that would screw things up a bit. Mind you, I would have thought in that case he would have been requested first to relink the videos.

And I agree a 6 hour project is enormous. I have to wonder who his audience would be. And if he only intends to play an hour or so at a time, then your suggestion of making hour long segments takes on further significance.

Hi fellows

Ok now tries as suggested. I transferred the 32G sd card to my hard disk. It contains approx 29G of video.
Opened Video Studio and went to capture, import digital media. It then imported all the files. I selected all and start import.

About half way through it slowed down that it looked like it was frozen

press ctl alt delete and received the following message

System detected an overun of a stack based buffer in the application. This overun could potentially allow a malicious user to gain control of this application.

i then pressed ok and screen went blank and then pressed ctr alt del and got the following message
Sign in process couldnt display security and sign in options when ctrl alt del was pressed, If windows does not respond press esc or use the power switch to restart.

I used the power switch.

I restarted Video Studio and substantially reduced the amount of data import and it worked. However as stated before I do not have this problem with Video Studio X^ which I still have on my computer.
The Video Studio 2020 is of no use if I can only upload a small amount of video files.

Regards

That is not the way you do things. The video is already on your PC as files. So you don't need to use capture/import as the video is already captured on your PC. If you want the video in your library you simply right click in the library window and choose Insert Media Files. That allows you to browse to where the video is stored on your PC. You select what you want to insert in the library and press Open. If you want to select several, the left click on the first video file and then hold down the Shift key, go to the last file you want and left click again. All the videos will then be selected.

If you want to put the video directly into the timeline, then right click in the timeline and select Insert Video.

The relevant commands are also under File in the top left of the VS screen.
