Can only create Instant Project Template as Split Screen
Hello,
I have done a project I am happy with and now went to make it a template. However when I export as template I only have the option to export under Split Screen category. As I had no other option I did this but of course it then shows my template under the split screen templates. I thought I would just be able to delete the thumbnail and then import within the correct folder but whenever I try to do this it puts the thumbnail in the split screen folder.
Please can someone assist me to put the template in the right place. I am very new to VideoStudio so apologies if I am making an obvious mistake. By the way I did save the project and template where the some other templates are (which for some reason appear in a Custom folder) D:\xxxx\Documents\Corel Video Studio\EditingStyle\InstantProject
Also whilst trying to work out what was happening I looked at where the existing templates are and I have discovered that some are in my documents and some are within program folders. Worse, when I did the install of VS I directed VideoStudio to my D:user drive but when the premium templates were installed I had no control over where they went so they are on my c: my documents drive. Then I found some of the older templates are not broken down by folder and all the resources are thrown in a single folder. I am not sure I would attempt to tidy that up but for the ones that are in a proper folder structure would I be able to move them to my documents on my d: drive as I don't like content on c: as it is a smaller SSD drive. How would I go about this if it is not just a simple move of the folders?
Thanks

Re: Can only create Instant Project Template as Split Screen
Hi JSH
I believe there is a bit of confusion regarding Split Screen Templates and Split Screen Instant Projects
The programs ability to save files to our hard drive seemingly any where they like makes things a little untidy, for Split Screen files we cannot choose a save location but can move the files to another location, will cause a re-link error.
Then again I don’t agree with installing Video Studio anywhere other than on the C:Drive
Ok that said
The instant Projects you see in the library folder named as Split Screen are Instant Projects, for the time being ignore those
From the media library create a new folder +ADD name it My Split Screens
We open the Split Screen Templates Editor from the Icon on the tool bar immediately above the timelines we can create our own effects
At the bottom is Export as Template, ignore that option as it will create an Instant Project template.
Hit the OK will close the editor and return to the video studio timelines showing your effect, if that is ok - File Save as to save the project
In the library, that is the Media Library there will be a Split Screen Template called SplitScreen03.vsmontage or similar.
Now if you double click this file it will open the Split Screen Editor allowing you to continue editing the template, ok will return to timelines and update the library clip.
At any time you can drag the template from the library to the timelines
Right click the library clip for locate on computer, if you wish you can move the file, rename to give it a more meaningful name.
This will upset the library so best to remove the clip then import again after renaming.
As i say it is a little confusing having both templates with similar names bur react differently.
I did say ignore the IP files, but we can use those as Split Screen templates although changing them may give you a head ache
Open the Instant Projects Split Screen folder
Drag any to the timelines but hold Shift to flatten the clip.
Select your media Library My Split Screen folder
Now drag that back to the library to your MY Split Screen Media folder
It is now a true Split Screen clip, double click and the editor should open

Re: Can only create Instant Project Template as Split Screen
Hello, thank you for the very comprehensive reply - I will read this carefully. Yes I am confused as I did not realise an Instant Project was a Split Screen template as in the manual this is no reference to Split screen. Here is a rather long link to the part of the manual that I was reading for reference: http://help.corel.com/videostudio/en/of ... 3ww1441461
By the way just to clarify the programme itself is installed on c: Where a programme stores stuff in user drives I prefer that to be on my larger d: drive.
Thank you for your assistance.

Re: Can only create Instant Project Template as Split Screen
Hello again, I am so sorry I think I misled you. I do not want to create a split screen template, I was to create an Instant Project. However when I choose export to template the pop up dialogue box to create the template (attached) only give the option to select a split screen template. There are no other options that can be selected. In the manual it says '7. Specify the path and folder name. Choose the category from the drop-list where you want to keep your template. ', which implies there should be other choices. When I click on the arrow next to split screen there is only the one option. I would have expect Instant Project to be in the list. What am I missing?

Yes certainly something missing
I assume you are using the purchased version and not the trial, just a thought
I see a lot more as my image shows.
I have tried accessing File - Export as template using several projects and cannot replicate that panel.
Is this just isolated to this panel or are there other things amiss with the program?

Re: Can only create Instant Project Template as Split Screen
Hi, I did have the trial and then purchased Ultimate version. I uninstalled the trial version before installing. The only thing related to installation I can think of is that a couple of weeks after purchase I got a pop up with an offer that was cheaper than what I paid but also included PSP Ultimate 2020. I had PSP Ultimate 2019 at the time so it was a no brainer. I emailed Corel for a refund and told them why. I thought it was worth a try - Corel came straight back with a refund so I repurchased the bundle offer instead. Obviously the version I had installed then went down to trial. I had hoped to just put in the new licence key but I couldn't find where to do that. So I ran the installer again - I put in new licence key and it only took a minute. I did not uninstall in between I wonder if that is it.
The have had two 'issues' really, well three if you count the random shutdowns but I am just monitoring that those. One of the two was about the timeline images not rendering but you have reported that as a bug. The other issue is when I export using the default MPEG 4 option (MPEG-4 AVC (1920 x 1080, 25p, 15mbps). What happens is that the rendered video has some images swashed so they look like 4:3 images in a 16:9 project. When I go back to the project they are the same. But when I close the project and re-open it is fine. When I render using MPEG-4 AVC 4k (3840x2160, 25p, 40mbps) there are no issues. These are the only two export options I have used so I don't know if any others cause the same issue. As I know how to avoid I have not reported it or asked about it on the forum.
With you asking me about a trial version I'll uninstall and reinstall the software to see if that makes a difference and then report back.
Thank you very much for your assistance.

Re: Can only create Instant Project Template as Split Screen
Hi
Another day
This is very strange and certainly not how the program should run
Can you confirm that you did purchase the Ultimate Version with PSP and not the Pro version
Help About will show the version number, I see 23.1.0.481
It could be that the program has been updated from the Trial but now could be the PSP package
Then could be all versions of VS but this has not been reported before.
As for the render of images and wrong aspect ratio, never heard of that
Can you create a short project using the programs library images, if that is the same please zip the project VSP and attach to your post, I’ll have a check from my end
You could be wasting your time if the problems are all associated with a bad installation
I’m thinking I need my wall again to bang my head against
I’ll run a few tests later today, gonna go for a walk as the sun is shining today.
Once you have uninstalled the program
Download the programs files again
Create a new folder on your hard drive, add the Web Installer file, the small 7 Mb file
Run that - do you get an option to change the download folder, if yes choose the new empty one.
Download the entire packages
I can compare my files downloaded on 1st April
Corel have change the way the Installer file works so not sure what will happen when trying to download again?

Re: Can only create Instant Project Template as Split Screen
Hi again,
Hope you enjoyed your walk
I had already reinstalled by time I read your new message. I did download software again just in case. I can report back that the uninstall and reinstall from scratch has sorted the Instant Project Template issue. So it does look like it did not like me changing licence key by basically just doing a repair install. Thank you for the idea to reinstall.
To answer your questions. Yes I definitely purchased Ultimate version. Throughout the trial I was continually only offered Pro versions of both PSP and VS. As I already had PSP Ultimate 2019 and I knew I wanted Ultimate VS I ignored those offers. That is why I ended up buying VS Ultimate 2020 on its own. It was only afterwards that I was offered both PSP and VS Ultimate as a package, and as I say it was a no brainer as I paid £20 less and got PSP Ultimate 2020 effectively for free. I did not really expect Corel to refund me the original purchase just so I could buy it again £20 cheaper. But amazingly they did, I was very chuffed. I cannot fault them.
I can confirm I am on the version you listed.
I will try the export shortly and will report back.
Hope you enjoyed your walk

Re: Can only create Instant Project Template as Split Screen
Ok so the issue with the aspect ratio remains. I will do a project using the stock images as you suggest and see if it is the same. If so I'll post under a new heading as this issue no longer relates to the project template issue.JSH wrote:Hi again,

Re: Can only create Instant Project Template as Split Screen
Hi
Thanks for the update
Yes the walk was good, not so much a walk as we like birdwatching so jumping from tree to tree
Don’t get that far but out for 2 hours
Although you seem to have fixed the Export as Template issue I did have another idea that would work
You save your project, then import that project file VSP to the media library
Now you can drag and drop to the timelines, acts similar to the Instant Projects except from the media library.
And yes a good idea to start a new topic for the aspect ratio these posts can get a little confusing having different subjects.
Oh one thing to ask – do you see Highlight Reel installed, look in the Tools menu, also a grey disc/reel to the top of the library, one users cannot install that and has followed a similar install as yourself.

Thanks for the extra idea - it is a good one -I did think of something similar for FX Instant Projects but I don't seem to have any control where they appear - I can't seem to get a template to appear in a new folder within instant projects. but your idea would solve this thanks.lata wrote:Hi

Re: Can only create Instant Project Template as Split Screen
Hi
What do you mean by FX Instant Projects, is FX a typo?
Ok
Between the library and the preview screen is a vertical row the third one down named Templates, that is a new name for 2020 previously named Instant Projects and that may cause some confusion when we type the wrong name.
Select the Templates icon will open the library, what do you see?
I have Split Screen, Instant Projects General Custom and a few more
What you see depends on what you have installed / created in addition to the program installation.
There is a folder VSPTemplate here
C:\Users\Trevor\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate
This folder contains Instant Project and Fast Flick templates both types are similar in the way they work. You should have that folder
I have attached a IP template to the post, unzip and copy and paste the folder Cross Fade IP to the VSPTemplate folder
Now access the Templates library it should update to show that new template
Try creating your own template and export, do you have the Instant Projects available
Corel are now using a Common folder for its templates/samples (2019 and 2020) files may not be in the folders we expect them to be
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Content
