Hi,
I know it is a personal preference, so those of you that shoot a fair amount of video prefer one over the other? I am still playing around with this camera which has both settings,
and it is normally set for 16x9. The vast a majority of projects I have done since vs have always been 4x3 whether pictures and some video. It is kind of a new experience delving into
the 16x9 format and wanted to hear some thoughts from others far more experienced than myself?
Thanks for any and all input,
Sincerely,
Bruce

The most important factor to consider is how your target audience will view your rendered project, e.g. computer, smartphone, TV, etc. Most modern devices have a native 16:9 aspect ratio display so there is little point in rendering a 4:3 aspect ratio video for these displays.brucefl wrote:The vast a majority of projects I have done since vs have always been 4x3 whether pictures and some video.
Obviously, the answer to this question depends on the previous discussion. Assuming that your target display device has a native 16:9 aspect ratio and your camera's CMOS sensor has a 4:3 aspect ratio, then I'd suggest taking still images using a 4:3 aspect ratio and video images using a 16:9 aspect ratio.brucefl wrote:4x3 vs 16x9 recording?

Hi
I agree with tletter
You do not say which camcorder you are using.
Video Studio now defaults to using an aspect ratio 16:9 as do most playback devices, I assume your TV is rectangular at 16:9 ratio.
The last time I used 4:3 was some 10 years ago (DV Camcorder) and I recall converting my project to use 16:9, after that I always recorded to 16:9, now I have upgraded to HD.
With the introduction of HD video 16:9 became the norm, now 4K video is available again 16:9

Re: 4x3 vs 16x9 recording?
hi,
It is a JVC Everio records on its own HD. Its default is 16:9. I had tried both, but I think I will go with the 16:9, especially where the vast majority of tv's are widescreen.
I was just getting some input what others may prefer.
Thanks guy
