Transitions lost during rendering

Post by DotsFar »

Hello,

New user of VideoStudio 2020 Pro.

Have a small video in 4 parts, after cutting out sections. Have inserted Flip transitions in the 3 cuts.
Video and transitions plays perfectly in the editor and on the Share page, but after rendering, the file saved to disk misses 1 - 2 of the transitions, seems to be a bit random which one goes missing, and the clean cut of the video is shown instead.
Why is this, does anyone know :?:

Are you saying that when you play back the rendered video, the missing transition is at random and not always the same one?

At the moment it is consequently the second one of the 3, but during the day, trying to render with different output types etc, it has changed which one was missing.

You say the project is small, but how small is small? Are any of the clips only a second or two long? If so, how long are the transitions set for -- 1 second, 2 seconds...?

Sorry for slow replies, I am new and posts needs approval.

The clips are:
16s 49s 45s 1m51s
Transitions 3s between each of them, and a Title overlay on first clip, and fadeout plus 2 painting creator overlays on end of last clip.

Have you tried it with other transitions than the Flips?

For experiment, tried to change them to paper collage, but same behaviour.
Actually, then 2 missing after rendering, left the transitions on 1s duration as is default.

Not that it should make transitions disappear, but what format is the video and is it from a smartphone or video camera? Right click one of the videos in the timeline or in the VS library window and either take a snapshot of the Properties box and upload it here as an attachment, or else type out the Properties manually.

when we add a transition it can be added over two clips causing the clips to overlap by the duration of the transition, the transition affecting both clips

We can also add to the end of one clip
Adding a transition to the end of the first clip will effect that clip the second will show without the transition, is that what you mean by "and the clean cut of the video is shown instead."

Are you able to create the same problem using the Solid Colour clips from the library
Then Zip and attach the project file (vsp) to your reply

It is from a Sanyo video camera.

The transition is added to both clips, as the dialogue says to hold CTRL to add to one only, and we don't do that.

I tried to reproduce with replacing clips with solid colour, but then it worked.

Back to Flip transitions, I now get this error during rendering
IMG_20200414_212849.jpg
It seems to be highly dependent on the rendering type. Some terminate during rendering without errors, some gives errors, some says successful (but with some transition missing), and AVI is actually successful but with lousy quality
Edit: and AVC 1449x1080, 30p, 18Mbps also worked. Not sure how compatible the .m2t file is though.

The Properties of your video are absolutely standard. When you first inserted the video into the timeline, did you get a message asking if you wanted the Project Properties to match those of the clip? If you didn't get such a msg, check in Preferences to see if the box is ticked beside "Show message when inserting first video in timeline"...

I see AVC 1440 x 1080 at 18 Mbps worked. If you got the above msg and said OK to it, in Share can you successfully render using either "Same As First Clip" or "Same As Project Settings"?

Same as Project Settings completes without errors, but only one of the 3 transitions made it to the rendered video.
That setting is set, but it doesn't ask. Just tried twice to create a new project an drag the video to the timeline, no questions asked. What should I have answered ?

The only reason you would not have received the question, if it was set in Preferences, is perhaps because of the anamorphic 1440 x 1080 instead of 1920 x 1080, though 1440 x 1080 is certainly also an international standard. (Indeed, it is the standard size for HDV video which alas has now largely gone out of style.)

If you ever do get that question, you of course answer "OK" if you want, in Share, to use Same As Project Settings.

On the Share page, you could try using Custom, and set the Project Properties for the rendering to be the same as the original video. Then try rendering Same As Project Settings again.

If not, and one of the videos with those Properties is indeed the first video in the timeline, then use instead Same As First Video, and see what happens.

You might also want to untick the little box beside "Use SmartRender" on the Share page, and also untick Enable Harware Acceleration if it is ticked. Then see what happens when you render.

Hi
Very strange affects, I have run several tests and unable to replicate this problem.

Can you provide a project.vsp file, zip and attach to your post
We can try to replace the files and check the properties and then try rendering to replicate this issue

Can you also tell us what settings are used in Preferences F6 – Edit tab – audio and Transition duration's, thanks
