CVS 2020 DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MP4 FORMAT
I cannot import a .mp4 video file. 2020 doesn't even recognize it on my computer. How do I import this video format into 2020? Do I need some sort of conversion software? Seems to me that this technology should have no trouble with this format. Please advise. Thank you. Larry

PS This is a 6 gig video project.
Is there a setting that I am missing that makes this file unrecognizable for VS?

Re: CVS 2020 DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MP4 FORMAT
PS again...in fact none of the current versions of VS recognize the file. I've tried VS10 and it doesn't recognize it on my computer as a compatible format. Please help! Thank you.

UPDATE:
I JUST DRAGGED THE FILE INTO THE TIMELINE AND IT IMPORTED FINE! STILL CURIOUS WHY IT ISN'T RECOGNIZABLE WHEN I TRY AND CREATE A NEW PROJECT. DOESN'T EVEN SEE THE FILE.
THANKS ALL!!!

VS2020 has no problem with mp4 files. Exactly how were you adding the mp4 file when your create a project and VS doesn't see the file? If you were using "Open" then of course VS will not see the file since Open recognizes only the vsp project filesLBRESLOW wrote:UPDATE:

Tried OPEN and NEW PROJECT to grab the file and neither recognized it. No error message, just didn’t see it at all. Other than dragging into the timeline like I ultimately did, what would you recommend? Thank you for your reply.

Re: CVS 2020 DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MP4 FORMAT
Neither Open nor New Project will open the video. As canuck has already said, Open is meant to open files so will only be looking for .vsp files. New Project will create a new .vsp file.
The usual way to insert a video clip is File > Insert Media Clip to Timeline. You can use a similar command to insert the clip instead to the library window.
Even easier, right click in the timeline or library window and select "Insert Video" (or Photo or the other things listed there).
