VideoStudio degrades resolution of large images

VideoStudio degrades resolution of large images
I have a large image (1080 x 10300) that I want to fit full width and scroll up as music plays.
This is all set up, but when rendered, the image resolution is totally degraded. Maybe 100 pixels wide.
The project is set to be 1280 x 720.
Any idea why?
How to fix?
Thx

Hi rjensen
and welcome to the forums
First-- your first two posts require approval by our moderators, this can take a little while, I have deleted your other duplicate post.
Retaining image quality of large images is not something Video Studios does best
The problem is the frame size limits the amount of pixels used, so even if you have a very large image pixels are dropped or limited to the frame size
4K frame sizes would retain better quality.
As your image is 1080 fit to a 1280 frame you have already zoomed into your image and would reduce quality a little
You may be best creating an image of say double the width of your project settings
If you need to use 1280 then an image at 2560 wide would probably retain more detail.
Of course there is the option to use Text clips, creating titles to scroll up the screen.

Re: VideoStudio degrades resolution of large images
There is no way VS can deal with an image that wide. The only way you can do it is to reduce the image significantly, perhaps in a third party image program, to something very much closer to the final frame size of your project. If you reduce its overall dimensions, the problem, of course will be that the vertical measurement will be incredibly small. The only alternative would be to significantly reduce the size of the image itself, cutting off left and right, until it is closer to 1280 x 720 or even 1920 x 1080....
Hopefully others will share their ideas...

Re: VideoStudio degrades resolution of large images
Hi
Can you confirm that your image is in portrait with a vertical size of 10300px, effectively a vertical banner.
I created several 1920 x 1080 images containing text
Inserted those to the overlays to apply Customise motion to scroll each image upwards
I used two overlay tracks to overlap each images by 50%
These seemed to scroll ok with a reasonable quality, of course rendering is the final test for quality
As a test I first create text boxes although scrolling was a little poor, Images seemed to work better

Seems similar to the issue addressed at viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64068&hilit=panoramic&start=28rjensen wrote:I have a large image (1080 x 10300) ... but when rendered, the image resolution is totally degraded.

Re: VideoStudio degrades resolution of large images
Yes, the image is 1080 horizontal and 10300 vertical.
I want the image to scroll upwards, like credits. (It's not credits, it is a picture.)
The original picture is available at http://www.consol.ca/capture.jpg
Inserting into an overlay track is shown at http://www.consol.ca/capture_001.jpg
Scaling to original size is shown at http://www.consol.ca/capture_002.jpg
For some reason VS resizes my image when inserting it. Any way to prevent that??
The issue at viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64068&hilit=panoramic&start=28 was never resolved.

As clearly stated, it was resolved using Openshot (freeware NLE video editor).rjensen wrote:The issue at viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64068&hilit=panoramic&start=28 was never resolved.

Re: VideoStudio degrades resolution of large images
Hi
Tletter --- Openshot
The link to the post is here
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64068&hilit=panoramic&start=28
There is a link to a YT video that should show how, link not available on YT.
Would Open Shot manage the vertical banner as the other post is referring to a panorama video.
Video Studio
Unfortunately the Video frame resolution limits the amount of pixels that can be added
Your project is using 1280 x 720 so your banner at 10300 is gonna be stripped to 720 pixels and that’s what you see.
The best I can suggest is to use an image editor to crop your vertical banner to create multiple images approx. 1080 x 1080
The horizontal 1080 can be the same on all images the vertical may vary a little depending on the size/ height of the panels
I managed 4 panels per image and had 10 images for the full banner
Add those to the overlay tracks
Using 2 tracks allowed me to overlap by 50% then apply Customise motion the scroll up the screen
I had to separate the clips a little as each was a different height, but using the chapter points as a marker worked well in accurate positioning.
Apply Customize Motion to first image then Copy and Paste Attributes applies the effect to all. ( CTRL+ A to select all)
My attempt at the vertical banner using CVS2020

It might - 'rjensen' could try and let us know.lata wrote:Would Open Shot manage the vertical banner as the other post is referring to a panorama video.

I was referring to your post and the Youtube link, that is no longer available
I did download and install OpenShot but I do not know the program so could not verify that it works for vertical banners never mind a panorama image
As you recommended the software i thought you would be proficient and confirm that it works.

Yes after two years, the video has been removed.lata wrote:the Youtube link, that is no longer available
It works fine and doesn't degrade panoramic-type images unlike VS. A quick example of vertical panning using Openshot based on the image from 'rjensen' is available at https://youtu.be/7TeZ367U4hElata wrote:As you recommended the software i thought you would be proficient and confirm that it works.
N.B.: This YT video will be removed shortly as it's of no lasting value and I don't want it on my channel.

Re: VideoStudio degrades resolution of large images
Hi
Thanks Tletter
Has taken a while to get my head round this program and does indeed manage those banner type clips
Given a bit more time and practice I will get the hang of it, trial and error was my approach finally getting a scroll over the full length.
Then I need to change the duration to slow things down is proving a bit of a challenge without starting from scratch, I’m sure there must be a way

Okay. I figured out Openshot. Powerful. Painful. Impressive.
My only question to Tletter: I have several transform points to time the zoom with the music. How do I individually edit or delete them?

Is this a question about VS or OpenShot? If it's an OpenShot question, then you'd be better off asking your question on an OpenShot forum, e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/OpenShot/, rather than here on a VS forum.rjensen wrote:My only question to Tletter: I have several transform points to time the zoom with the music. It is an OpenShot question. I also asked on the OpenShop forum. No response.
My reason for asking you here is because of your promotion of OpenShot.
