Back Up to Disc of VS 2020
Hello
I have just upgraded to VS 2020 Ult. They advised backup of the program. I have tried to do this but there isn't enough room on the disc. Apparently 1.95 short. Any recommendations on how to back up this program in case of future problems.
Thank you.

Re: Back Up to Disc of VS 2020
Hi
Backup to me means saving the download files to a safe location, this could be anywhere on your pc and does not need to be saved to disc.
Yes I do save the files to a couple of locations on my pc, that is on a different drive.
The first file you receive is the Web Installer a small file under 10 Mb that is used to download and install the program.
Think of it as a Download Installation Manager
I have had no problems on using that to download any version of Video Studio.
I believe the first version to use the Web Installer was X9 and I could use that today to download those files.
If that option does not change then we don’t need to backup, although take care of the Web Installer and your serial numbers
There is also the option to save the files to a cloud but could take a long time to upload and may have size limitations.
Others may have different suggestions

Re: Back Up to Disc of VS 2020
I backup an image file to an external drive. This can easily be restored if necessary. I also backup the stub installer and the key to the cloud if a reinstall becomes necessary.

Re: Back Up to Disc of VS 2020
Hello. I think that’s what I’ll do as I’ve a Seagate Drive. But then you lose me I’ve no idea what the stub installer is or the other thing you mention. But if I’ve got it on an external drive that will do nicely. Many thanks for your help. Stay safe.

Re: Back Up to Disc of VS 2020
The stub installer (official name for it) is the "small file under 10 Mb" that Trevor referred to. Saving to the cloud means saving it to OneDrive on your computer. This saves it to an external drive assigned to you by Microsoft when you set up Windows. It is said to be 'in the clouds' because it is far away from your computer, but accessible later should you ever want it.lata wrote:The first file you receive is the Web Installer a small file under 10 Mb that is used to download and install the program.

Go to: https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/pages/download/ and download the installer for VS 2020. It's a small program to start you off. It's a good idea to save your installation key also. The stub installer and your key is all you need to access the program-neat and compact.

Re: Back Up to Disc of VS 2020
Or, since you seem to like disks, you could back up the entire download folder - which includes the stub installer - and the license key file to a blu-ray disk. Most computer CD players these days are actually burners of every version of disk up to and including blu-ray. You don't need VS to burn it either there are a number of free software versions, as well as explorer!! that will do the job. The hard part may be acquiring a blu ray disk to use: once fairly common, I now find I have to buy them on-line.
And this is consistent with the storage of "bought" software being supplied on disk (a DVD) - which is the ultimate back-up medium.

Re: Back Up to Disc of VS 2020
Thank you for replying. I only mentioned discs because that’s all I’ve needed to use in the past. I am now going to back the program up on an external drive. One thing though - as this was a second upgrade (original bought in 2018) if I did have to reinstall at some later date would it download as a complete program, or would I have to install the original one first. I hope you understand what I’m talking about as I’m not technically savvy.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Back Up to Disc of VS 2020
Hi
In my experience
If we were to re-install any program and that program has had been updated by Corel, running the Web Installer will update the files by adding/downloading any extras that are necessary.
Then the program will continue to install.
Personally I prefer to download a complete new set of installation files
I choose a new empty folder, add my web Installer file and a txt file containing my serial number.
Running that web installer making sure the new folder is selected.
If the program is still installed we can deselect “do not download installed versions”
I can then choose Download Only
I now have the latest version of the program
As an example of a Corel update, If you were to download the 2020 today you will get the latest version which includes all Services Patches.
Once you install the program the SP2 will not be required

Re: Back Up to Disc of VS 2020
In my previous post I gave you the URL for the stub-go look at it. All you need is the stub and your key to install the program which can be placed in the cloud. Simple, no extras required and safe.
Also, if used you get the latest version of VS. On a disc or elsewhere you could have an older version. I also use a disc image to backup the whole computer in case of future problems. Macrium is what I use for the image backup.
The stub is here: https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/pages/download/
