Long Delay in reaching SHARE Screen
I have had a very long running issue with getting to the SHARE screen in Videostudio in order to render projects. I do eventually get there but the delay from the point of clicking the SHARE tab from the EDIT screen can be anything up to five minutes. It doesn't matter how long the project is and the delay is even there when there is no project at all !
I raised this with Corel Support months ago and, without wanting to sound unkind, those guys have made me lose the will to live on many an occasion. Their solution is always a "cut and paste" "uninstall and reinstall software" which they have asked me to do seven times now. They then ask me to uninstall/reinstall drivers which I also have done so many times. Deleting temp files, purging cache, and so on ..... we just go round and round in circles without anybody showing any real interest so ..... I'm throwing it at you good folks because your support has always been of far greater use to me !
Important to note that this first occurred in VS 2019 (which was okay at first), I then upgraded to VS 2019 Ultimate and then VS 2020 Ultimate and it has stayed with me throughout.
In sheer desperation, I even produced a video showing the problem so can you take a look and throw some ideas at me ?

Re: Long Delay in reaching SHARE Screen
Hi Paul
Yes quite a delay there
Your cursor shows a spinning halo, that’s unusual as though something else is going on in the background.
When I hit Share it is usually pretty quick, but even if there is a delay there is no halo?
Unfortunately your problem spanning two versions of VS does appear to be your environment.
So what changed on your pc when the problem first occurred whilst using 2019.
I really don’t have any other suggestions than re-installing and checking your pc drivers
One option would be to reset the program by renaming the 22.0 and 23.0 folders but to be honest if it were these folders both would not cause the problem
C:\Users\Trevor\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)
We recommend re-naming as we can then revert to the last folder should we need to do that.
Unfortunately not what you wished to here but it does look like your pc.
When you hit Share, if you view Task Manager – performance, maybe look at the Resource Manager
Is there anything there working overtime.
And that’s about as technical as I get.
Others on the forum may have better ideas as to check the pc performance

Re: Long Delay in reaching SHARE Screen
I reviewed your YT clip: reminded me of an almost identical situation I had last christmas. I can suggest why, and further action for you, but it's NOT identical. First, the differences between your clip and my case are:
- you use windows 10 ( important, more below), whereas i use windows 7.
- the screen situation when the activity marker just blinks at you are different, which I ascribe to the OS.
What happened to me. I was trying to upgrade the PC to windows 10, and after upgrade and opening VS, the share panel when selected looked like this: only partly open and the activity indicator just blinking at me <<this image taken when win10 was active on the PC. I even made a capture wmv file of this, but looking at a blinking activity circle for extended periods gets old fast.>>
I eventually tracked the problem down to the Visual C++ redistributables that VS uses: there are quite a few, and which one is the cause I never established. These programs are written and supplied by Microsoft as "community" assets - once installed, can be used by any software. And for that reason, thereafter un-install does not remove them, nor does re-install replace them. And the ones in use are different by OS version: VS installed under win7 uses different ones to VS installed under windows 10. Microsoft makes assertions that when a new OS is released they make every attempt to ensure compatibility is retained.
Note that the 6 monthly upgrades to win10 are effectively new versions, and I would bet that your problem began occurring after a win10 upgrade.
I found this "re-distributables" item out over a 6-week period of frustrating installs, uninstalls, driver regressions and various forms of windows upgrade. And if you get the re-distributables right, the share pane hang up goes away.
How can you get them right??
- uninstall VS, completely including any personal data entries. And after that's done, uninstall the re-distributables - all of them. (program and features, locate them, rt-click and choose uninstall).
- clean up, including the registry - there will be hundreds of left over entries for VS in it that uninstaller process just doesn't remove.
- re-boot after you are certain the PC has nothing of VS left over on it.
- re-install VS. And now, because there are no re-distributables on the PC, the installer will search for and install the ones it wants for that version of OS and VS.
- start VS, and after the 1st start lag, go to Share - it should appear in about 2-3sec.
In my case - win 10 broke so much (3 tries, and each one was a different exercise in heartache) that I just gave up on it and reverted to win7, where everything including 5 versions of VS works fine. There's a post about this sorry tale in the forum at the end of January 2020, but I could not find it on search.

Re: Long Delay in reaching SHARE Screen
Yes, you are certainly in a poor situation with that. Like Trevor, I go through what I consider to be a lengthy time to get the Share screen to open. But for me "lengthy" is 10 seconds when most other mouse commands in VS happen near instantaneously. And like Trevor I only get the white cursor arrow while I'm waiting, not the blinking blue status circle you are getting.
Now definitely try David's suggestions, and if they work, great.
If they don't, one other thing you might try is this. With VS open on screen but not doing anything, open Task Manager with all its tabs open. You'll see one tab over to the right called Details. Open that and scroll down to VideoStudio. Right click that and choose Set Priority. By default it is set to Normal. This indicates that it is the same as all other programs in the allocation of computer resources. Change it to High or Real Time. Now try going to Share in VS. Does it run any faster? In my case it opens instantaneously after doing this...

Re: Long Delay in reaching SHARE Screen
Before I commit to this one, can I confirm that you mean to delete ALL the Re-distributables listed under "Programs & Features" ? I'm just a bit jumpy about warnings that deleting them may render other software un-usable. Much though I'd like to resolve problems with VideoStudio, I don't want to screw up other key softwawe I use.Davidk wrote: How can you get them right??

Re: Long Delay in reaching SHARE Screen
Sorry Ken, I did ...... ramped it up to highest priority while sitting dormant in EDIT but clicked SHARE and no change !
What I have noticed is that while waiting for the SHARE screen to appear, Task Manager showed the Event Viewer / System Error service running hard and fast. Sure enough, when I checked Event Viewer, there were literally dozens of errors being logged at the rate of every two seconds and they are all the same.
The error states .......
Source: APPLICATION ERROR

Anybody make sense of this as the answer to the problem must lie somewhere in there ?!!!!

RESOLVED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deleted QUICKTIME and then re-installed just the QT Essentials element from a new install and ..... now the SHARE screen appears quickly !!!
No idea what that was about but Quicktime was the issue !

Re: Long Delay in reaching SHARE Screen
Wow. Out of left field, that one.
As to other users of the re-distributables - 2 things
1. The runtime they work with is specific to and included with the OS, which is why my redist items installed under win7 did not - in the migrated in-place upgrade to win10 configuration - work when I started VS under win10. To work correctly, the redist installation has to occur within the correct OS environment (so an MS agent told me. And the test experience of creating win10 "clean" and then installing VS bore that out). See my prior post about installing redist in a clean OS platform.
2. I was initially concerned about other program users. But they are Visual C++ re-distributables, so any other program using them would have to have a visual component to them. Ultimately I could not find any, and reasoned that as I was going to immediately re-install VS with its correct VS redist set, it did not matter.
As to the higher priority approach suggested by Ken, I also tried that and it did speed things up. But there are complications:
- the are 3 resource priorities - normal (the default), high, and real time.
- to get the changed resource priority particularly using real time, you have to run it as administrator at the same time as invoking the VS executable. You normally do this using a batch file. I attach a sample of the one I used to do my testing: you would need to adjust the 1st line to match your installation drive/folder path. What it does is:
1st line, change the focus directory to the one containing the VS exe file
2nd line, set the priority (high or realtime - use the cmd help to get the syntax right) and run the executable.
Tip - create it and locate as a .txt file. Once in the right folder, change the file type from .txt to .bat.
The batch file when created is located in the same folder as the VS exe file, and then create a shortcut on the desktop is the last piece needed.
To use, rt click the shortcut, and choose run as administrator from the list.
But I have to say this priority effort was in pursuit of performance improvements, about a year or more ago, not the Share pane hang up of 4 months back.

Re: Long Delay in reaching SHARE Screen
As for QT, were the files from the camera originally .mov files (which is of course QT). They could be mp4 wrapped in a .mov jacket....

To the best of my knowledge, I've never used .MOV files and the phone camera creates MP4 files.

Re: Long Delay in reaching SHARE Screen
Hi all! I've been away for quite a while. Great to see many familiar folks from the past are still here!
So, I installed VS2020 a few days ago. Things are going very well overall, but I was running into the issue described in this thread where after clicking the "share" tab, there as a very long delay (90 seconds or more) before the export dialog would appear. I noticed that Paul33 had resolved the issue by uninstalling QuickTime and replacing it with QT Essentials. In my case, with Win 10x64, I checked my programs and discovered that a version of QT was installed, probably by one of my apps, since I myself didn't install it. In any case, I fully removed QuickTime and the "share" problem has resolved itself completely! I do have the latest QT installer on-hand to re-install if needed. Obviously I'm hoping the removal of QT won't negatively affect any of my other software. Should that occur, I'll be sure to post something about it here. That said, I'm able to create and view .mov files with no issue so far.
Cheers!
