Moving multiple clips in timeline

Post by SLOPPY »

Hi all, this is my very first post so nice to meet you all :D

I've hunted everywhere to find the answer before I posted my question, I know I'm going to kick myself when somebody responds with the solution.

I'm running Corel Studio Pro 2019 version 22.3.0.433 64bit Ultimate.

All I want to do is add clips into the middle of my timeline so everything after it then moves to the right in every track. I've tried to select all the clips I need to move along by pressing shift, then selecting every clip after, it's a mundane process because there's a lot to select, sometime this wont work, it just doesn't seem happy moving all the selected clips to the right.

I'm simple terms, like trying to make room to put your clean shirts on the rail in the wardrobe hahaa

Hope that makes sense.

Many thanks in advance :D

Hi Sloppy
And welcome to the forums

Try using Ripple Editing

Along the timeline to the left shows links the top enables Ripple Editing
Then select each overlay track
When you add your clip to the top timeline all clips to the right will shift right

Pressing F1 will access the help files where you will find more details with images
Has its limits but in general works ok

Hi Lata

Wow I really appreciate your fast response.

I'm big step further thanks to your very well explained guide and everything worked except, when I placed the new clip where I wanted it in the top track as you said, because there's a big blank space it shot off earlier down to the left, not where I want the clip, but yes everything after that in all tracks did indeed mover to the right

I'm a novice to this but do know the basics however, I have a feeling I'm probably not following the protocol when building my clips, should I make the top line priority so there's no gaps?

Many thanks again :D

Yes i would do just that

One of the problems with Ripple Editing is the use of Gaps Editing introduced with 2019, worst thing Corel did.
I cannot really help to correct problems if you have gaps so many anomalies, Ripple Editing will not work to well.

As a workround if you need a gap drop a colour clip from the Graphics library, you can use a black color, you will see no difference in the timeline but Ripple Editing and adding clips should work ok.

simply put I do not use gaps

Thanks so much for that.

Ok for this project to save me starting all over again, Ill just pop a black colour clip in the top track and stretch it to where I want to insert my new clips, then use the link ripple editing method, that's so much easier than selecting loads of clips to shift to the right, then having to pull them all back to my newly place slide.

Great work around and many thanks for the F1 tip and taking the time to reply. :D :D :D
