Corel psp 2020 is not starting many times
And when closed, it's always stays open in the windows process list and have to kill it!
When are you going to fix this app ?
Also when selecting almost any tool the first time program is open, it will lag for 10-15 seconds.
For example start app > new > lag of 10 seconds
or other time, open photo (jpg 8mp) zoom and pan okay, but when clicking any tool, like select, lag 10 seconds!
Win 7, 64 bit, 16gb ram,
psp 22.1.0.43 x64

In configuration switch off "Cataloging" after PSP is closed and similar stuffs... It helps a little.

Could you tell us how to do that, please. I have no idea where "Cataloging" is found. And what do you mean by "similar stuff"?Radim wrote:In configuration switch off "Cataloging" after PSP is closed

Re: When is corel fixing the 2020 ?
I'm going to guess Radim is referring to the Manage Mode catalog. If you use Collections then you've told PSP to catalog specific folders.
File -> Preferences -> General Program Preferences - Under Manage there are two options to exclude certain file types from being cataloged, and to exclude specific folders from being cataloged. Go ahead and tell it to ignore all image formats and add the Pictures folder to the uncataloged folders. Do you notice a difference?
Small background:
I think this goes back to when PSP would auto catalog the PIctures folder.
PSP defaulted to adding the Pictures folder to the Collections. Then PSP would go through all of the folders and sub-folders inside the Pictures folder to find images, it would add them to its database, recording tags, EXIF, and ICMP data. As well as making thumbnails for its cache. It would do this in the background on startup and shut down polling the folder for changes. Eventually, especially if you had a ton of images, PSP would really begin to slow down both at startup and shut down as it did its work cataloging all of the images. PSP refusing to shut down was a constant headache.
The solution was to remove the Pictures from the list of cataloged folders, and even to set it as Uncataloged in the General Preferences. People would also manually delete the image database and thumbnail cache to clean up their harddrives. Essentially disabling the manage mode altogether.
PSP no longer defaults to cataloging the Pictures folder. Still, if you are having this issue it's always worth a try.

Re: When is corel fixing the 2020 ?
Thanks Matthew. I have never used Manage mode, so wasn't aware of all that!
I was also a bit confused when Radim said to do it after PSP was closed. I thus assumed it was some process outside PSP...

Re: When is corel fixing the 2020 ?
Hello,
I have the same problems with PSP 2019 Ultimate: very slow Manager.
Building and rendering the folders, thumbnails and larger images (*.pspimage) takes a lot of time in Manager tab (both in Collections and in Computer view).
The CPU of my new and modern laptop must work hard when using Corel-PSP's Manager, but Windows 10 own file manager works quickly in showing the content of the images-directory (*.pspimage and *.jpg).
I do not use the default Windows Picture folder (is empty) but a folder on my D-drive (Samsung SSD 860 QVO 1TB SSD) [C-drive is: Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB].
Even when PSP has finished reading the folder-content and is ready to accept another mouse-command in the Manager mode, it takes a long time before I can activate (double L-click) a thumbnail to actually open the image in the Edit mode.
My guess: either Corel's programming code for file-management is sloppy (endless loop?) or rebuilding the database (subfolder-content within Collections or Computer) is slow.
Does PSP-program need more/specific Write-rights to store data on the drive?
If I change the (sub)folder structure and content (via Windows file manager) will PSP-Manager get lost? Will the database get corrupted?
Friendly regards,
Rges

Re: When is corel fixing the 2020 ?
The wording 'double R-click' should be 'double L-click'. Sorry. Text already corrected.
