Your system has not been modified. To complete ......

Post by jlovda »

PaintShop Pro 2020 seemed to disappear from my system. I uninstalled it from the control panel and tried reinstalling it. I get this message when I run Setup. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. I am also running PaintShop Pro 2018, and thank goodness it still continues to work fine. I got so frustrated I went into the registry and attempted to delete every reference to Corel 2020 and PSP2020. I tried running Setup as an Administrator, no luck. The program is NOT listed in the Installed Programs list so I cannot uninstall it. How can I reinstall PSP2020. I seem to be locked out. I have now spent a lot of money for nothing. Please help!

Hi jlovda

and welcome to the forums

Try running the Cleanup Tool, download from here
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=52337

Then try re-installing the program

As noted above, going into Task Manager I found Corel PaintShop Pro in the Background list. When I delete it, it will open fine the next time I want to use it. HOWEVER, It almost always goes into the background regardless of how I close the time before. Makes no difference whether I drop down the FOLDER menu and hit EXIT or just hit the X in the upper right corner. It's a nuisance and frustrating. I never have a problem with PSP2018. Is there any way to correct this? How can I bring a "background" program back into the foreground?

Background is just a category, Windows Task Manager puts it there when PSP destroys its GUI in preparation for closing. Or just before PSP creates its GUI when first starting up. You cannot make PSP re-create its GUI after it's already closed it so Windows won't label it as Foreground. It usually goes into the background category while it finishes clean up and writes out details to the registry. It should always go there but rarely for longer than 30 seconds or so. It's only if it refuses to close for several minutes that it's a real issue.

Question, are you using Manage Mode inside PSP at all?

Hi

I have been having the same issues using 2020, not sure if its related to the popup program messages that hold the program open
It can be showing in Task Manager for hours, till i try to open the program again, then End Task allows me to run PSP again

Have taken note of my close process but not really found anything i can pinpoint as being relevant other than the messages.

Unfortunately it does not happen every time so difficult to pin point the culprit.

I do not know exactly what you mean but I am a very basic user working in the "EDIT" mode on one picture at a time. After my editing is finished I usually just use "Save As" and then close the program.

Thanks

Hi
I can replicate the problem where PSP remains in Task Manager after closing PSP

1 / I opened PSP
2 / I also had Task Manager open, viewing that I hit Alt + Print Screen, that copied the panel to the clipboard
3 / from PSP right click for Paste as New Image
4 / Crop tool applied to image
5 / Image Resize – don’t think sizes are relevant
6 / Ctrl + A - Ctrl + C to copy image and paste to a word doc
7 / Hit the X to close PSP, message asks to save image, selected Close all
8 / Result PSP remains listed in Task Manager
Unable to launch PSP
Task manager used to end task
This is repeatable with simular approach to above.
More tests and I had same results with 1 to 4 above followed by 7

Ok another test
1 / open PSP
2 / open any image
3 / Use the crop tool
4 / File – Exit shows a message to save my image – I choose Close All
PSP remains in Task Manager.

The same tests on my system don't produce the defect. PSP2020 closes as expected without staying in the Task Manager.

I suspect this behaviour (staying in background) is perhaps related to the system (graphic card or processor) or Windows version (mine is Windows 10 Family, version 1903, OS version 18362.778).

The first method did hang PSP on my laptop. Windows 10 Pro version 1903 OS 18362.657

Process monitor doesn't immediately present anything that would stop the app from closing.

No problems here either .
After step 4 in the second set I did not even have time to see it in Task manager.

Hi
I have PSP X7 installed and that does not show this problem

When I close PSP X7 its gone in the blink of an eye, instantly removed from Task Manager so fast i do not have time to switch windows to see the entry.
Viewing Task Manager the program shows in the Apps section, close the program and it appears in Background Processes for a second before it disappears.

After closing PSP X7 I can relaunch within 1 second, its fast.

PSP 2020 has the problem

I also have PSP X9 but not installed, I could try that

I went to my work computer and it did not show this problem with 2020. It's OS version was 18362.778. It is also a completely different model of computer with different programs, and security setup than my home laptop. So in a very unscientific test I updated my laptop to OS version 18362.778. And I have not been able to duplicate the problem. It hangs for about 10 seconds after closing before vanishing. Almost exactly 10-15 seconds each time.

Quick disclaimer, I never tested this issue on my computer more than once before upgrading. So I have no idea if I would have been able to duplicate it more than that first time. And I doubt security upgrades to Windows 10 would have fixed this. I just can't say either way.

Hi
I cannot believe it has anything to do with Windows 10
I have version 1903 Build 18362.778
Installed on 17th June 2019

I’ll install 2019 and see how that performs

Post updated
2020 and 2019 show the same problem

PSP X7 does not have this problem

Have done some further tests and for earlier versions up to X4 there is very little delay in disappearing from Task Manager.
X7 up to x9 the lag time is about 10 seconds.
versions 2018 2019 2020 the delay is about 25 seconds which to my mind is reasonable as if I want to restart PSP within that time it just shows I was disorganised in closing it before I was finished.

Could part of the delay be in phoning home to see if there are any new messages. Perhaps turn off your internet and see if that makes a difference.
Why later versions - possibly because there is a lot more to do in the background while closing down.
