VS 2020 Pro - Not a registered user error

Post by ColdCoffee »

Hello, new user to this forum with a very common problem throughout the ages:

Issue:
I receive the dreaded "You do not appear to be a registered user..." error when launching VideoStudio Pro 2020 and am unable to use the application.
SNAG-1027.jpg
Details:
  • 1. Purchased VideoStudio Pro 2020 from Corel's website last week.
    2. Downloaded the installation file using the link in the registration/purchase email.
    3. Installed application with ALL antivirus apps disabled. Entered software key, which was accepted.
    4. I was ABLE to launch and interact with VS Pro 2020 at the completion of the installation process with no issues. Produced a small video from it.
    5. Rebooted computer.
    6. After reboot, I receive this error when starting VS Pro 2020.
I can replicate this issue at will with every complete uninstall/complete reinstall. VS Pro 2020 works after fresh installation but will NOT work across PC reboots.

Note that there are no AV/malware scans running on reboot.

Computer: Dell XPS with an i7-7700 (3.6 Ghz) and 16 Gb of RAM. System hard drive where program is installed is an SSD (256 GB).
Operating system: Windows 10 x64, and is MOST CURRENT of Windows updates.

Please help. I have a classroom of remote-learning students who are being educated via videos produced by this product. At the moment I am dead in the water.

Welcome to the forum ... and I'm sorry you are having problems.

As you probably know, none of us here work for Corel so we have no access to Corel's registration process. However, I am wondering, when you first opened VS 2020, did you receive another email from Corel saying the program was now registered? There is usually a sort of prompt at the end of installation indicating you are being registered.

You can check this yourself, though to do so I am assuming you set up a Corel account. Go to Corel.com and log-into your account. On the new page which appears there should be a list of your Registered Products. If VS 2020 is not there, then at the top of the page then click on the link "Click here to register additional products". Enter your serial number and the language, and that should then register the product.

Thank you very much for your quick reply.

In noticing two Corel licensing Windows services running on my PC now, it seems to me that this is an issue with something being saved on my PC that proves the products are registered. I don't get the impression it has to do with the product phoning back to Corel for proof. But in any case, I did follow your steps to validate that my products are indeed duly registered from the day I bought them last week, according to my account. I didn't have to add them today.

As an aside, I struck out in getting any type of official support from Corel. They are not answering customer phone calls, they have yet to reply to a case I opened last week via their site, and they are not replying to my DM on Twitter (Which was respectably worded).

The priority for me in resolving this has to do with the fact that I am helping my wife, a school teacher, create her online content to provide for her students who are all now learning remotely. Thus, patience with Corel is admittedly low since a lot of this content is due this week. I may have to look elsewhere for a video editing tool and cancel this credit card charge.

Asking for your money back is usually a good way to get Corel's attention . . .

Hi
I did not change the default installation folder but have seen this error myself which did cure itself with a re-installation
Only saw this once I believe after installing one of the service packs

I would suggest you download the installation files again to a new / different folder and try a new install
