Is anyone experiencing issues with ripple editing on VS Ultimate 2019 and 2020?
I did upgrade from 2018 to 2019 and only installed upgraded version recently. However, I noticed, if you use ripple editing and copy paste an image (or a clip) for example on your timeline (for example if you want to duplicate), it does not work as it should. The overlay is not shifted. But it works ok if you insert an image, or delete an image.
I tried this on 2020 trial, same problem.
This works OK on 2018.
Have been through support chat, but as usual, they never focus on your specific issues. Instead they give you some set instructions to follow which involves cleaning and reinstallations. That did not solve my problem. I told them, only patch would solve it as it's obviously a fault in the software.
Normally, I would have expected them to try and replicate it. But, apparently they don't do this and only follow some boring steps in their troubleshooter. I never got a genuine technical support from Corel ever, to focus in specific issues. I did use their support in the past and never had any satisfactory result. I am not even sure they read what your specific issues are.
Can someone replicate this issue on your PC with VS 2019 or VS 2020?
Basically just put an array of images on VIDEO timeline (Main Track) and same on the OVERLAY1 underneath. Activate Ripple Editing (that chain sign). Copy and Paste image on your VIDEO timeline and see if OVERLAY1 is affected. Normally, the images on OVERLAY1 will be shifted to the right for the same length of the pasted image. If only VIDEO timeline is affected, then ripple editing is not working as it should.
Thnx

Hi
We / I am aware that there is a problem with Ripple Editing and the use of gap editing
This has been reported to Corel during beta testing but so far has not been fixed, and yes was a problem with 2019.
I will test your process to see if i can replicate.

Hi
Yes I can confirm that using Copy and Paste to the top timeline does not use Ripple Editing
However Drag and Drop the same images to the timeline does appear to work ok
I suspect there may be other instances of this issue if we look hard enough.

Re: Ripple Editing 2019/2020 not working properly
Thanks for the quick reply. This confirms that there is an issue with ripple editing.
So far I've noticed only with Copy and Paste. If you delete, insert or drag and drop, it works as expected.
I use about four or five overlays with image slide shows. However, before the slideshow, I use some introduction and there I often use copy paste procedure while editing. Ripple editing is on on main track and all overlays, so anything i reshuffle on first part, does not effect the second part where slideshow is.
In VS 2019, when I used it, it messed up the rest of my video, where slideshow is with all the overlays.
It shouldn't behave like that. And I know because in 2018 it works normal as it should.
How do we get them to fix it?
Meantime, I'm back to VS 2018. VS 2020 has the same issue.

Re: Ripple Editing 2019/2020 not working properly
Hi
I have always thought that the problem with Ripple Editing is associated with 2019 being able to use Gap Editing
Prior to 2019 all clips on the top timeline shuffled left, always worked ok.
Now we can create a gap on the top timeline, no idea why I would wish to do that when a colour clip would do the same.
I have attached a test project, contains Colour clips but shows the Ripple Edit issue

Re: Ripple Editing 2019/2020 not working properly
I'm the same way. I pretty much cut my teeth on VideoStudio, which always kept the main video track gap-free. Then I saw that Sony Vegas allowed you to have a gap on the main video track and couldn't understand why. I started using DaVinci Resolve, then Adobe Premiere, and both allow you to have gaps on the main video track. I've gotten used to it, but really don't know why I'd want to do that. One thought is that Vegas, Resolve and Premiere do not come with easy-to-add color clips, such as the ones in VS. But all the "pro" software lets you have gaps in the main video track, so perhaps Corel thought doing the same with VideoStudio would make the software more comfortable for editors coming from those other applications.lata wrote:Prior to 2019 all clips on the top timeline shuffled left, always worked ok.

Re: Ripple Editing 2019/2020 not working properly
I have Vegas Pro and Pinnacle Studio. Every editor I've used going back to DPS Editbay and Premiere 6 in 2002, shuffling things on the timeline has always made editing easier for "me" especially if you are using many tracks. Now all the editors I've used, any track can be anything you want not being limited. There is a reason why most consumer and all pro editors allow this.
But it comes down to what you are used to.
When I bought my first copy of VSP X4, I found it strange how I couldn't do what I wanted with the clips on the timeline. But it offered some great addons....
