MOV files distorted

Post by fingerbreaker »

Hi,

How do I fix this?
Untitled 1.jpg
Putting several videos received from family members into a video montage. Many import fine, including other .mov files, but several .mov or .MOV (don't know if that makes a difference) make me think I'm watching TV in 1975.

THanks,

Vs2020 is barely 3 weeks after release and there are issues with it. This may well be one of them.
- does the clip play OK in media player or VLC?
- do you get the same result in 2020 with other mov files, like the 1st one in the timeline you pic?
- properties of the clip?? post a screenshot image
- if you have a prior version installed (profile suggests that), how do those mov files import to it?

I was hoping this was just an obvious, newbie issue for which there was an easy answer! I will provide more info when I have time tomorrow.

I can tell you that some of the clips played normally in the "preview" window (when you double click on the clip in the library). All of them play normally in Windows Media player. I'll try them in x9 and post properties tomorrow.

Thanks,

Hi
From your image the video looks as though it has been recorded in portrait I assume using a phone or tablet
I would also suspect using a non-standard codec that Video Studio is struggling to read.
Right click the problem clip for properties what are they?
You may have to use a video converter to create a new video that VS can edit.

For my purposes I just used x9 and they imported fine in terms of this weird distortion. Actually several still had other problems (no audio, wouldn't play at all) so I used MS Movie Maker Free on my pc to convert them to whatever the default choice was and it made them all easily digestible by x9. That trick did NOT work on the distortion issue in VSu20.

Of 10 videos, 4 of them were still distorted when I viewed them in the "Single Clip Trim" window (double clicking the thumbnail of the clip in the library). 6 of them played normally in the "Single Clip Trim" pop-up, although when the video is paused, that image is distorted. I attached screen shots of the properties of all 10 videos. I know next to nothing about video parameters, codecs, etc. so I am just providing them here for the experts. My problem has been solved by avoiding using VSu20 going forward and paying more attention to when things were released before I purchase them!

I also added a screen shot of the project properties in case that is relevant (I didn't make any attempt to change properties to see if that helped).

Thanks,
