VS 2020, font size

Post by Borut »

Hi, I installed VS 2020. Fonts in 2020 are significantly larger than in previous versions, is it normal? Where can I change font size?

I made print screen of VS-2019 and VS-2020

I'm not sure that you can. The change in font size might have been deliberate on the part of Corel to deal with those of us who have 4K monitors and for whom the fonts in previous versions were far too small.

One place you might look, though, is on the Compatibility tab of Properties when you right click the VS desktop icon. Down towards the bottom of the compatibility tab you should see "Change high DPI settings". A new page will appear and down towards the bottom of that is another box beside "Override high DPI scaling behavior". If it is empty, try adding a tick then reopen VS to see if there has been any effect. If the box is already ticked, try unticking it and again check to see if there has been any change in VS...

Tnx Ken

Seems that this could be solution, but unfortunately checkboxes on this tab are locked.

That seems a bit strange. When I wrote the above, I played around with that tab and had no trouble ticking and unticking the box...

Interesting to see that the Croatian box is a little different to mine. "Run As Administrator" is, on mine, the last box under "Settings" while on yours, it is the button I was referring to. And for you the DPI box is the last of the boxes under Settings, though as you say, it is inactive... What happens when you press the Run As Administrator button...? I am just wondering if somehow or other the words do not correctly match the functions of those areas of the dialogue box. In other words, a mistake may have been made by Corel when setting up the Croatian version. I am, of course, wondering whether you would get the DPI page when you press Run As Administrator.

This what I get:

Hi Guys
The increased size also affects some pop-up panels, Mask Creator, Pan and Zoom etc where some details are hidden
Try viewing Preference (F6) this fills the full height of my screen

My monitor is 1680 x 1050
I did try setting the “Change high DPI settings” but messed up the rest of my pc so now just struggle on

Corel should be aware of the size issues

I'm pretty sure Corel *is* aware of the font issue. But just as you have problem with the size of panels panels etc with your non-HD monitors, those of us who have 4K monitors also have problems -- though unlike others, our problem with VS in particular is that we are seeing too much. Many of the 4K monitor users -- like me -- already have their screens zoomed to 160%. That is still not enough for either VS 2019 or 2020 where the fonts on the GUI are just really tiny. So the use of the DPI control is a necessity. Other non-Corel programs don't have this problem...

I in fact thought the problem for 4K users at least had been resolved in VS 2020 -- only, I found that my earlier setting in the high DPI control was still active! Yet the only program it seems to affect -- and in a good way -- is VS. So far at least, it does not seem to have affected any other program.

Now we know Corel managed to increase the size of fonts, nodes etc in PSP 2019 and even more in PSP 2020. So why can't it be done for VS? They seem to be only satisfying users with (roughly) HD 1920 x 1080 monitors....

I do understand the issues 4K monitors have had and tweaking the pc settings is a workround but should not be necessary
Most popup panels give some size problems one way or another.

My monitor at 1680 x 1050 22 inch across the diagonal is big enough for me and only has a slight problem, but smaller laptop monitors loose a lot of details to the point of hiding control buttons.

Yes PSP was addressed with font icon sizes but it’s the Pop-up panels of VS that is causing the problems and PSP don’t have many of those.
Unfortunately the developers do not seem to test their own work and don’t recognise the repercussions of their sizing tweaks.
