emailing images from psp
Hi. I have psp 64 bit 2019. I'm trying to send images by email using the file - email function. A message window opens telling me I do not have an email programme associated to perform the requested action. I have gmail installed on my laptop but the message asks me to create an association in the Default Programmes control panel. I try this but still get same message. Can anyone help please?

I hadn't tried this before but it doesn't work for me either in PSP 2020 (Thunderbird as client). Thanks for pointing it out.

It seems not to work because PSP stays open on screen and nothing new happens.
But if you reduce PSP, you will see Thunderbird open in the background.
It seems not to respect my choice: original size image selected (9 Mo) was sent as a 2 Mo image.

Re: emailing images from psp
I can't get mine to work either... (Microsoft) Mail was set as my default mail program, but it didn't open. So I set Thunderbird as my default app. That didn't work. I closed PSP and reopened it. Still wouldn't work... I even changed the default to Outlook but it still wouldn't work... Hmmm...
I might note that when I looked in Task Manager, in Background Processes there was an entry for "Corel email (32 bit)" so obviously something was supposed to happen. I then tried the 32 bit version of PSP just in case... but no...
Jean-Luc -- when you clicked the email button in PSP did you get a dialogue box asking if you wanted to send the image embedded or as an attachment? And did you change the drop-down button in the middle of that box from Maximum size > Medium to Maximum size > Original? I think you have to do this if you want what you receive to be the same size as the original.

My Thunderbird is closed. It is my default client.Ken Berry wrote: Jean-Luc -- when you clicked the email button in PSP did you get a dialogue box asking if you wanted to send the image embedded or as an attachment? I open an image in PSP 2020. Its size is 3746 x 2387 pixels, saved at minimum compression in JPG. Size on disk is 9,3 Mb.
I do -> File -> Email -> Active image
In the E-mail settings window, I check Attachments (original file format).
Maximum photo size: Original
E-mail size: 9,3 Mb I click OK.
PSP stays unchanged on screen.
I see in the Windows taskbar on the bottom that Thunderbird is now open.
I reduce PSP.
In Thunderbird, my mail is ready to send but the image is reduced to 2 Mb.

Re: emailing images from psp
Thanks Jean-Luc. Interestingly enough, I had to reboot the computer for another reason just now. When it reopened, I tried the email function again. This time it actually opened Thunderbird after a few seconds. Even more interesting: the photo I chose at random in the PSP dialogue box said it was 1.7 MB. However, in the Thunderbird window it says it is 1.9 MB! So a slight bit bigger than the original -- though perhaps that assumes the overall size of the final email and not just the image.
So I tried a bigger photo to see what happens. I used a 49.5 MB TIFF. It showed as that in the PSP dialogue box and also in the Thunderbird window. So I can't replicate your finding...

Try a JPG. I suspect the compression rate varies.Ken Berry wrote: So I tried a bigger photo to see what happens. I used a 49.5 MB TIFF. It showed as that in the PSP dialogue box and also in the Thunderbird window. So I can't replicate your finding...

Re: emailing images from psp
In the "Default Programs" setting dialog on Windows. It has the ability to set default programs for both file types and for protocols. MAPI is the one PSP uses to attach images to an email, EMAPI (usually only supported by Outlook) is for embedding the images not just attaching them.

Thanks Matthew... but under "Choose default apps by protocol" in Win 10, I don't have either MAPI or EMAPI...

Re: emailing images from psp
I have managed to get it working - for my system at least. Using the Settings functions had no impact, what was needed was a Registry hack! Thus replicate it at your own risk.
Most stuff on the internet talks of registry settings in
However, looking in the current user section, I found an entry in but the (Default) entry was blank. I edited the key word (right mouse click on the (Default) and typed in Mozilla Thunderbird, the email client I use.
I think PSP is looking at that key to find the application (via a re-direct to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla\Mozilla Thunderbird and again to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla\Mozilla Thunderbird 68.6.0 where the bin\PathToExe key gives the file location).
See attached for registry edit. By the way, the permissions on that part of the registry appear to allow a standard user to make the change (i.e. not requiring administrator permissions).
UPDATE: I tried emailing from PSP in another user account on the same device (the account I use when I want administrator permissions rather than my normal standard user account). This account does not have an entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients. The attempt fails with the standard warning of "... no email client associated ..." This appears to confirm the need for a user-level registry key.

Wow, I haven't used the mail options in forever and was just remembering how we used to do it. Guess MAPi isn't supported by Windows anymore. Thankfully Corel must have updated their setup because you've both found a way to get it to work.

Thanks to all who commented on e mailing function in psp.
I also asked Correl the same question and they told me that this function only works with older versions of psp and outlook as e mail provider.
