FB, While I cant load your vsp , but by looking at your MAX project I see it's only "small dots" moving around.
I don't know how they enter the screen, but if they are just about that size all the time what's the point of taking a very large image and let VS shrink it over and over again. load it at a proper size and just move it.
BMP holds all data, even the black all uncompressed. with PNG you can have just the relevant data (and size) with transparent background so no need for additional round mask.

Re: VS Ultimate 20 very slow with large number of overlay tr
Hi
I am referring to the images that make up the word MAX
Your original image vs200308a-001.BMP is 1920 x 1080
The actual orb is approx. 850 pixels diameter
Then you apply Customise Motion to reduce the size to 5%, the orb now uses a lot less pixels using a diameter of approx. 100 pixels
Effectively using a 1920 image only displays the orb at 100 pixels.
First I saved the Bmp as Png
Then I resized to 480 x 270 that’s 25% of the original size at 16:9 ratio, however could be square at 500 x 500, in fact could be smaller as the orb is only used at 100 pixels.
PNG images can be transparent, that is have a transparent background, that would mean you do not need to apply the mask (circle mask white 1.png)
That being applied using Chroma Key to use on your images, however I had to apply one at a time and there are a lot.
I have attached my versions of the orbs original size and small option
Insert to the overlay track and the background is transparent
Video Studio has a wealth of png images in the graphics Library, now named Overlays, the flower icon.
Using png’s on your original project would require a lot of work but you should consider for new work
But try, save your project to create a copy then rename the folder containing the vs200308a-001.BMP
Relink to the new PNG
Remember to revert the folder back to original name for your original project.
If you wish to test the TV quality create a short project using a mix of BMP and PNG to render and play on tv

They enter the screen full size, then shrink. Once they are small I agree I can replace them with mini-dots.
Can you point me to a resource that can help me understand how I can convert the image to a PNG with a transparent background? I don't know how to make that happen.
Thanks,
FB

Re: VS Ultimate 20 very slow with large number of overlay tr
Trevor,
Thank you again for helping me with this and for preparing the small orb pic. I will use it to replace the orbs after they have been shrunk in the project. This may be basic but I do not know and would like to be able to do this myself: how do I convert an image such as this to a png with a transparent background?
Thank you,
FB

Hi
You may be best to use the PNG images on your next project.
To create a PNG any image edit should be able to do, I used PSP, Photoshop would also do the job.
What type have image editor do you have access to?
I was messing about and segregated the MAX section to a new VSP attached, you should be able to relink using the Small .png
Plays ok on my pc, but when using BMP just stalls.
Had a lot of problems re-linking and some unusual effects that VS did, quite annoying
At one point a clip would not show as though the overlay track was disabled although in view, disable and enable again showed the clip, very strange.

Re: VS Ultimate 20 very slow with large number of overlay tr
I just look at the original ziped bmp's, the baby one looks of high quality but the other looks as an SD VHS video capture blown up so I will surely wont use it as full frame adjacent to the other as the quality difference is very apparent.
IfranView can save a png with transparency.

I found an on line program called PIXLR
https://pixlr.com/x/
Seems to work to select and remove background then save as png.
Not used before but looks ok and safe i think?

Re: VS Ultimate 20 very slow with large number of overlay tr
Thanks Gary
The details you showed were set by default so did not have to change or select any other option
From Adi’s image I had to set Save Transparency as Alpha Channel, that did the trick
However that remove some black detail from the Orb making that a little opaque
There does not appear to be an option using Infra View to make selections, although could be hidden somewhere
I must admit the program is a lot more powerful than first impressions, Although I’m more at home with “wysiwyg editing”

The color setting is this
