Disc Space Not Enough on Version 2.5 SE, BUT IT IS! Help

Post by teddford »

:x

OK, I seen a post similar to this one on a different version of Movie Factory, but not on this version.

I have Movie Factory 2.5SE US03-1219-03_01

After I spend hours editing and preparing various music video clips to burn onto a DVD, DVD Movie Factory 2.5SE quits at the very end of the burning process with the message: "Disc space is not enough, Insert a new disc to retry or press Cancel to stop the process". I have been burning disks for two weeks with no problems whatsoever. The software has always done an excellent job burning the videos.

I am not exceeding 4.3 GB in my burning efforts, and many times have even tried burning less than 2.0 GB. I’ve called Tech Support twice and they are at a loss to explain what is happening.

The first tech rep suggested that I go to Project Settings and check the box “Do not convert compliant MPEG files” and he had me change and had me change my MPEG setting from its default (I did not make a note of what that was) to “Long Duration (4000 kbps, 120 minutes per DVD). I tried this and same result.

The second tech rep asked the type of DVD Burner that I had. After telling him it was a NEC DVD RW ND-2500A, he looked it up on NEC’s website and said I needed to update my firmware. I did so and I’m still having the same result.

I’ve tried uninstalling & reinstalling the software and I’m still getting the same message: "Disc space is not enough, Insert a new disc to retry or press Cancel to stop the process".

I’ve also tested the DVD Burner, it will record data CD’s, .mp3’s and I did manage to get it to burn one single 2.5 minute music video clip with Movie Factory 2.5SE (wasting 3 discs in the process). But when I try to put together a new project, or even try to work from an existing saved project, same error message. (Yes I have tried several different new media DVD discs, that’s not the problem)

The record menu at the time I am using 2.5SE to burn the DVD indicates I have ample room on both the hard drive and on the media disc.

I have seen the following post: http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf2faq.htm#1 that indicates there is a patch for this problem, but it is not for the version I am running. Help, I’m dead in the water!

Hey there,

I'm having the exact same issues. I just bought a NEC 3500A. I flashed the firmware, updated the drivers, patched ULead with the latest and still the same. I also changed the "working directory" so that it was pointing to a drive with ample space.

I've tried everything that you did as well. Soooo...I have no idea. Please let me know what you hear. I'm still muckin with it.......we shall see. I did try just to burn a regular data DVD and that worked just fine. So I know the burner works......

Anywhooo...I'm still testing.....Please let me know what you find.

Thanks,

Brian

You can still try to apply the patch to see if it will install.

If it will not install then I think the only way to fix it is to upgrade your DVD MovieFactory to the latest version....

Upgrading might be a good idea. However I'm really not that apt to spend money on upgrading a product that I can't even get to work in the first place. If there were a free upgrade I would try it, but this product came free with the DVD burner when I bought it and it SHOULD work. If I'm going to spend more money, I'm going to search for another product that I know will work. Right now....I do not know that a new version of the Ulead product will do anything different.

Applying earlier version patches...

I gave it a try...it will not work. In fact, it completely changed the user interface page on Movie Factory and left me without options. I completely uninstalled the software, turned off the computer for a time, then re-installed.

I was able to do one single project today, about 1 hour & 20 minutes. It did burn, after first rejecting two blank discs saying the discs were not empty. I was then able to burn the project to a disc.

Afterwards, I went through 3 hours plus trying to burn a longer project (3.7 GB) and...BAM back to the same old error message. I too am very reluctant to upgrade to a newer version...spending more $$$ when this version doesn't work and TWO tech support reps cannot figure it out.

Workaround found!

OK, my Movie Factory 2.5SE came in a software bundle with the NVIDIA Personal Cinema FX5700 from PNY Technologies. In addition to Movie Factory 2.5SE, I also have the VCD DVD Disc Image Recorder that came in the bundle.

ULEAD tech support cannot understand why the 2.5 SE software is not calibrating the correct size of the file to be burned on the project, but that is exactely what is happening. The file you creat to be burned is not showing correctly on the project screen.

This is the workaround they helped me to arrive at.

1. Go ahead and create your project. In my example, I created a project earlier and saved it to my desktop. It's called Shindig.dwz.

After opening the project in Movie Factory 2.5SE, continue through the project screens to the screen that allows you to choose "OUTPUT", shown with the icon in the bottom, right-hand side of the window.

In this example, my required/available harddrive space shows:

5.9 GB / 15.7 GB

AND, the software mistakenly showed: (further explained below**)

Required Available Disc Space (for media):

3.4 GB / 4.4 GB

In this screen, do the following...Go to Advanced Settings. Once there, REMOVE the checkmark from the box entitled "RECORD TO DISK"

Check the box next to "CREATE DISK IMAGE FILE". Click OK to exit this screen and return to the Prior screen. Then select "OUTPUT" and then check "Yes" when the box appears telling you that this project will take a lot of time to render.

Choosing this method speeds the entire project up considerably. Now, in this example, it created a project named "dvd.iso". In this example, that you will find in your "working" folder under your Ulead directory, file folder "2.0"

** The actual file size the project created was 4,540,576 KB, and the DVD Movie Factory 2.5 SE showed that I only needed 3.4 GB of the 4.4 GB required on the media disc. In actuality 4,540,576 KB is equal to 4.3 GB. Still, If the Movie Factory 2.5SE software was working properly, it should have burned this DVD.

Once you have created the .iso file, close Movie Factory 2.5SE.

2. Now, open VCD DVD Disc Image Recorder.

Follow the steps. Step 1: Open the newly created .iso file you just created.

Step 2: Make sure your DVD Burner is selected.

Step 3: Push the "RECORD DVD" button.

In very short order, you will then burn your DVD.

Just remember, when you are done with the.iso file, you should probably delete it as this does use up valuable hard drive space. You can always re-create the.iso file from saved .dwz files with the Movie Factory 2.5SE software. That portion still works.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!!!
