Studio 2020 Crashed

Post by RobCharles1981 »

So I recently got Studio Ultimate 2020 installed (Clean installed)
Working on some projects, then the program randomly closed, and trying to re-open the program, just hangs on the splash screen.
If I restart my Computer and then run the program it opens like it should.
Anyone else having this problem?

When it hangs or won't restart, look in Task Manager > Background Processes under C for Corel Video Studio. It will often stay working and you need to right click to End Task. This has also happened with previous versions, though only for some users...

Now happening frequently in the new version. Currently every time I have a project opened, after closing it crashes until restart.
I am waiting for few more days and will request the refound too.

Hi Ken,

I did that and fired up the program, still it just sits on the loading screen.

Its about time Corel - devised a patch to stop this from happening.
The Live Chat is useless they tell you to reinstall the program or do other "fixes."

Yes, I agree. I've tried to track down the issue in Windows Even Log, and indeed, everytime the app crashes it is stored as a crash of:
C:\Windows\System32\jscript9.dll

Is seems similar to PaintShop Pro that loads similar to VideoStudio at startup a lot of HTML/JS/CSS files to provide interactive start page with latest offerings from Corel.

It is a painful process as Corel programmers use build-in JScript interpreter (perhaps from IE). And as we know MS updates core of IE quite frequently.

So, only solution for PSP 2020 and VSU 2020 is to ask for complette *offline* mode that switch off al those *features* off (no more interactive start screen etc.).

Then startup of both programs will be fine.

This seems to be a long standing - multi-version - problem. A former student of mine had continual issues with launching VS2018 following a complete PC re-build after a hardware failure, until Corel support supplied (yes, they clearly knew about it!!! but allowed the agony to continue for 8 or more complete uninstall/download from the Corel site/re-install/launch cycles before the fix was supplied) a replacement dll that corrected the 'won't launch' problem.
And she didn't hold back with her remarks to the support agent either.

Could be that the .dll is also misbehaving in 2020, as I am having so many crashes recently.

Can you be a little more specific? What .DLL?

The problem happened again.....

Speaking to the Live Chat Person...telling me to do a default reset (which didn't work)
He now thinks the program is installed to the wrong location!
I have all my programs on another drive!

Radim,
I found the details in a saved email from a Corel agent (name withheld) in April 2019:
To fix the launch failure in Corel VideoStudio please replace a file in your installation.

Instructions to replace file:

1. Download the .dll file from the below link. "iEncoder.dll": http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles ... ncoder.zip

2. In Windows Explorer, browse to C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 2018\Common Files\MPEG

3. Copy and paste the DLL file into above folder.

4. Start Corel VideoStudio.
But note that this is for VS2018. And what the agent meant was to replace the existing file in the specified location with the one downloaded. If you are going to try this with 2020, to do that safely (meaning be able to "recover" the status quo if it doesn't work) rename the existing dll file (eg to file_old.dll) before copying the new downloaded one into the folder.

I've also had my money refunded after wasting my time yet again talking to the "robots" on the support live chat.
I may re-get it when and if they release a patch/update to improve the program.
