VideoStudio Ult 2020 Crashes Opening VS Ult 2019 Project
Hi,
I cannot open a project created with VS Ult 2019. VS 2020 crashes mid-way through loading the project.
Does anyone have any idea how this can be resolved?
I have contacted support and do not expect a reply for a week or so. Apparently support is going through a change that is not going well. After the ticket was created on the 25th, I asked on the 27th if someone was going to get back to me. I received an automated reply apologizing for no support and stating that I may receive multiple automated replies until the actual ticket is looked into.
Thanks for any help.

I opened a ticket yesterday, and got the answer today for a very similar problem. Constant crashes.
The support guy tells me to use 2019 cleanup tool 4 to 5 times in a row, then go to:
http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/pages/download/
To download the final 2020 version.
Downloading now...

Update - that didn't help as the "Final" 2020 version is 23.0.1.391, same as from the moment I bought the tool.

After exhausting all efforts to resolve my issue (still nothing from Corel support after 4 days), I requested a refund yesterday.
I have not received it yet. I hope this is not another issue.

Received refund.
Nothing from Corel support.
I have to say that launching a new upgrade with zero customer support is no way to attract new customers, and a great way to lose long-standing customers.

This is the reply from Corel support:
Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support. My name is Sandhiya and I have been assigned to your ticket.
I do apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused to you.
You cannot open projects which was created in previous version, since the effects and features applied in previous version are different. so you cannot open or edit projects created in older version.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.
Regards,
Sandhiya

I am not really surprised. Corel VideoStudio technical support does not exist. This was probably written by the receptionist, or maybe the pizza delivery guy.
This cannot be true, can it? Maybe it is. Yesterday I discovered I can not restore my Media Library from backup.
No backward compatibility? No Media Library restoration from backup?
I will reply to the ticket above to see if a mistake was made.

Re: VideoStudio Ult 2020 Crashes Opening VS Ult 2019 Project
We can only hope it was a mistake. But I won't hold my breath. One other thing which has been raised in this forum is that VS 2020 is also missing the ability to save a project backwards into an earlier VS format. With earlier versions of VS, it has always been possible to save in a couple of earlier versions to that version. VS 2020 gives a 'Save As' option as well as 'Save'. That was where it used to be offered. But in 2020, the Save As option only offers 2020, which rather defeats the purpose of having a Save As in the first place.
However, there was a problem with this in VS 2019, so it might have been done deliberately in VS 2020 -- until, we hope, a service pack will correct both the problem and the lack.
In any case, I have raised this with Corel, but we're still waiting for a reply...

Re: VideoStudio Ult 2020 Crashes Opening VS Ult 2019 Project
I replied to the ticket ...
"VS 2020 is designed to open projects created with VS 2019. If I am
upgrading, and am working on 40 or 50 projects, I do not want to start
from scratch. No one does.
In some cases, because of other technical difficulties, VS 2019 must be
cleaned from the computer before VS 2020 can be used. This is why VS
2020 can open VS 2019 projects.
And if you scrap VS 2020, and have to reinstall VS 2019, you lose your
Media Library because it cannot be restored from backup, nor imported
because it crashes VS2019. ...
"
The second reply from Corel is the same (canned response) as the first.
I replied asking that Corel acknowledge and confirm that VS 2020 can not open VS 2019 projects.
I will let you know Corel's reply to this truly unbelievable issue.

Re: VideoStudio Ult 2020 Crashes Opening VS Ult 2019 Project
I attempted twice to contact support with 2 more tickets, but received canned replies that they were duplicates of the original.
Yesterday, I received a reply to the original ticket from Sandhiya stating (s)he was waiting for information from me. I replied asking what information was required. Nothing was ever mentioned previously.
I received a reply that the ticket was now closed.
According to Corel support, VS 2019 projects can not be opened with VS 2020.
I tried.

Well, that seals it for me. I consider 2020 a total waste of money! I'll spend my cash somewhere else.

Re: VideoStudio Ult 2020 Crashes Opening VS Ult 2019 Project
Hi all, did you see the following thread, as for me, who also suffered from crashes when opening an old project, this is a suitable workaround:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=66660&sid=5dfdd0513 ... 06#p376360
And with this I am able to work even with old project files:
- rename all formerly used folders that contain old project files
- create a new folder
- start VS2020 (now it should not crash anymore - at least for me)
- copy an old project file into the newly created folder
- load this old project within VS2020 - edit whatever you want - store it under a new file name
- delete the old project file out of the folder
No doubt, this is an ugly way. But at least I can use my old project files until a patch is available finally.

Re: VideoStudio Ult 2020 Crashes Opening VS Ult 2019 Project
I asked for and received a refund.
VS 2020 is not ready for the market place.
Why pay for something that requires workarounds?
Why pay for a product with less than zero product support?
Who knows where the next crash might come from? Crashes seem to follow VS everywhere. And then you're right back to VS support, again.
It was time for me to get off this merry-go-round.

Re: VideoStudio Ult 2020 Crashes Opening VS Ult 2019 Project
Corel has released the past several versions of VS that have basic and obvious bugs. VS2020 simply continues this pattern. People who want a fully function version of VS ought not to purchase VS2020 until they see the complaints on this forum subside which in the case of VS2019 never really happened. In short, purchasing any recent version of VS and using it, will likely be an exercise in frustration.Radim wrote:Have You installed SP1?

Re: VideoStudio Ult 2020 Crashes Opening VS Ult 2019 Project
Over a year, I used to work with VS2019 and currently working very good.
I know where the potential crashes may happen and save very often.
But the 2020 was a nightmare. So rolled back, and waiting for a decent ServicePack then a good discount.
