Very new guy
I apologize in advance for my ignorance in this post but here is my situation. I am currently shooting a instructional video for an automotive product and I need to put all of the footage together then put my voice over on it "this is how you install this part". What do I need to buy to do this? I have my Sony digital high 8 camera and a new Dell computer. Do I need other pieces of equiptment and what Program would do a real nice job. I will be doing more of this so I want a program has alot of options to use at a later date. Thanks.
Hi teamdnf.
I use a Sony D8 videocamera too, and do voice-over.
When you've shot your tape, you need to transfer the digital information to your computer via a FireWire cable to FireWire card. The card is in the computer. You may have one already. The cable needs to fit the card (I believe there are 4-pin and 6-pin types) and your camcorder (pretty standard). Expect to pay $30.
If you own Ulead VideoStudio 9 you can do the rest without any problem. Of course you'll need to be able to burn DVDs. You didn't say so, though. If you don't have a burner and don't need one, you can just send the edited video back out FireWire to a new tape in your camcorder.
The voice-over part isn't hard. I watch my edited tape on TV, muted, and record my voice on a little gizmo. Then I copy that recording to the voice track of my video and adjust the positioning so what I say matches what I see. Other people record with a mike into the computer.
Get back to us with more questions.
