Can't eject disc to put in blank after reading .DWZ file

Using MF3.5, after opening a .DWZ "project file on disc", the program
imports the video just fine, but when I get ready to take the original disc (DVD-R) out, to put in a blank, I can't eject. Windows can't eject the drive. If I try to burn on the orig. disc (just to see...), it says "disc not blank - insert another disc and retry" but eject is disabled.

I have to close MF3 (losing the project - no way to save) to eject the disc.

Seems like its either a serious problem with MF3 or I am missing something really simple. I would guess its the latter.

BTW, the drive is a Pioneer DVR-A08.

MF3 also locks up my drive bay sometimes, it was when burning -RW discs. I had to restart.
