Why does adding Transitions shorten the length of the video
In VS 2019 when I add a transition effect, it shortens the overall length of the video. Is there any way to tell not to do this? I reel knocks my sequencing all out of wack.

Re: Why does adding Transitions shorten the length of the vi
No. That is the way transitions work. They overlay two clips and cover part of the end of one clip and the start of another, so they obviously shorten what is finally visible on both clips. For that reason, it is best to do any syncing only after you have finished inserting transitions.

I agree, but something is different in 2019. In the previous version, the effect on the timeline was not as dramatic. At least it feels that way.Ken Berry wrote:No. That is the way transitions work. Can you give an example of a "dramatic change"?
Unless you are comparing identical setups with the same videos, transition, durations, etc, any results between different VS version do not mean anything

You can hold the Ctrl key down when inserting the transition, but the result may not be what you expect.
Some video editors can freeze the overlapping part to avoid the shift in the timeline.

That is just it. I can't tell you exactly what it is. It just feels different. You have to understand that I have been using VS since UVS 8 SE, in 2004. There is nothing I do in VS that I could not do in my sleep without even thinking about it. I only notice when I do the same thing I have always done, and it suddenly acts differently. There is no question that adding transitions in 2019 behaves differently than in 2018, but I can't really tell you how unless I reinstall 2018 and compare them side by side. This is why I say it "Feels" different somehow. To me, it feels like it consumes way more time from the timeline than adding the same transition in 2018.canuck wrote:Can you give an example of a "dramatic change"?

Now it may just be an issue of display perspective that is tricking me. I really don't take well to change. I am still using MS Word 2003 because I refuse to mess with the insanity of the Ribbon Menu system. ARGGG!!!. I installed Classic Shell the second I upgraded to Windows 10, because by Job, you will not force me to use a TILE based touchscreen menu system on and mouse and keyboard driven PC. When WordPress released Gutenberg and converted WP to a block editor, I immediately installed a Gutenberg Disabler because of I use a KEYBOARD and MOUSE for crying out loud and I refuse to be pushed in the horrid world of the TOUCHSCREEN interface, that only a lunatic would think was better for professional work than a wonderful keyboard and mouse. There will never be a better way to interface with a computer than a keyboard and mouse until they develop an interface the can read my thoughts and track my eye movements.
Hey! Where did that soapbox come from? It just appeared out of nowhere and I found myself standing on it preaching a sermon. Whoa! Talk about weird!
