Corel 2020 Outrage
So a new window pops up inviting me to buy VS 2020! What a nerve! To sell a new version without any attempt to fix the many problems in the 2019 version via upgrades. I have to pay for this!! No ******* way! I was just trying to copy and paste a clip to a secondary track and instead of sitting where I put it, it went to the beginning of the timeline. Several times. Just one of the many problems I have had, including crashes, problems with the interface, slowness, etc. It wasn't like this before the 2019 version. Are they trying to lose their customers?? How do we know they have fixed the issues in VS2020. And, why should we pay for the fixes anyway? What a s**** company.

Mike, don't worry, you will still be a fine member in the forum if you wont go for VS2020.

Re: Corel 2020 Outrage
Mike,
There are reasons people "upgrade" to a newer (not necessarily the latest) version: generally, a feature you want use. Examples: painting creator came with x2, and I upgraded to x5 a year or so later to use it. Very handy for map overlays - somewhat similar to the rotopen filter, altho there are differences. Another is split screens first appearing in 2018. A former student of mine loved the colour correction capabilities of VS from x10 onwards - he said they were light years ahead of similar software. And so on. Upgrading just because it's the latest version never made any sense to me.
The point is that if your current or older version does what you need it to do, stick with it. If you upgrade - keep the old one installed as a reserve.
As for the 2020 pop-ups - their appearance is a sure sign that the formal release is close. And generally in that case there are good deals for the-about-to-be-superseded version, which you seem to have. 2019 has copped a lot flak, publicly and privately, about its buggy and unstable state, even now at sp3, altho what Corel will do about it is probably nothing.

Re: Corel 2020 Outrage
Your last comment is precisely my point. The 2019 version is unreasonably buggy but the company has done nothing at all to provide any fixes. Now they are offering a new version. Have they fixed the bugs? How do we know? If they have, should I have to pay for the next version to get those fixes? Surely, NO! A decent company would fix its errors for free. I am seriously thinking of moving to a different editing program. I can't take the crashes and other crazy things that happen.

Re: Corel 2020 Outrage
I too am a sceptic when it comes to any "new" version of VS, and not without justification.
2019 was a step back too far, with numerous problems which did not exist for me in the previous versions - and no fixes provided!
As for the latest offer, who knows how good or bad it is but certainly I will not take up the early purchase offer just to waste my money again
I shall monitor this forum for those who are brave enough to try and see what results they get?
VS18 still works for me and Corel has irrevocably tarnished their reputation with this "head in the sand" approach to marketing

Re: Corel 2020 Outrage
There have been fixes . . sp3 is the current version (22.3.0.436), and each sp was about 1gb of data: but fixes are only available as updates thru the program (help/check for updates). That said, complaints of issues still remain and get posted about.

Well then, maybe I owe them an apology. My version is 22.3.0.433 but I've never been able to see any updates, although I've checked.

Re: Corel 2020 Outrage
Ah. 433 is the latest if you update from within the program. 436 is the latest if you download either from the website or from the installer saved with a prior package (the installer it will check your saved files and if not the latest version, will download them again). No one seems to know just what the difference between 433 and 436 is, but evidently not much.

Re: Corel 2020 Outrage
Hey all,
Does Corel monitor this forum at all?
I am with Mike on this. I was going to post a scathing rant about VS 2019. It crashes all the time, it fails to render my videos, I have spent countless hours with support and it is still choppy, and buggy.
I am in the process of re-installing it now to see if that helps. I mean, 2018 had some issues but in comparison, it was infinitely better.
That said, I do like the latest greatest and have opted for the upgrade but if it is not fixed I am switching to Adobe. I have paid for the past 3-versions of this software because I like the usability and with some of the enhanced add-ons you can do some really cool stuff. For the price of the software, it is a very good package but I think Corel needs to seriously work on improving how it operates. I am having issues with a new video and the error changes from Failed on read video (or something) to unable to load library.
The one I created about a month ago had nothing but issues and I ended up re-doing it from scratch.
Honestly, You spend hours capturing your content and then spend 4-5 times that easily in post-production just to have all these errors when rendering the final product.
Mind-numbingly frustrating!!

Re: Corel 2020 Outrage
Rarely is there any indication of Corel monitoring the forum. The admins may draw the company's liaison officers' attention to a post, but otherwise - the way Corel reacts to problems is via the refund box.

Re: Corel 2020 Outrage
After the re-install I have the same issue.
It may be be with one of the 4K MP4 files from my drone.
I will test and see if this is the case.
Regardless, the 2020 version releases for download next week.

Re: Corel 2020 Outrage
Though sometimes I do not get a fix, "some" help support I have had great luck. Some others not so sure, I am debating whether to upgrade. After their last update to 2019 or the one before I could not capture from my firewire and Campus 100. Nothing they could seem to do, I hate when they have you delete everything (when you know it is not going to help. The tech support for a problem before, they upgraded to an upper support person which logged onto my computer and after awhile was able to fix the problem. I have NVIDIA card that no longer accepts the updates. I am thinking that is the problem, but I hate to pay 4-500 for a new board on this machine. I know it is a small glitch, but no help yet. I figure if I update and the problem exist I will contact them again!. I have used the program since like version 3 which was a few years ago
and am fairly use to it. (I was going to say knowledgeable) but still always learning. It can get extremely aggravating on crashes when it does not tell you why?

Re: Corel 2020 Outrage
While it may have been possible in the past to capture from a camcorder using VS, I always found it better to capture using the capture program that came with the camera that did transfer like that. And if you have a camera that plays clips that need to be captured, you must have a program for that or can get it from the manufacturers website.
Beyond that, capture using firewire has generally gone out of favour since the advent of usb3. The only computers that had a firewire connector in my experience were motherboards for desktop machines. And they've not really been in the market generally for some years. Similarly, camcorders using firewire to deliver clips for capture are obsolete. Some camcorders using firewire also use storage on a removable SD card as an option (a new thing way back then). If your camcorder is one of these, then I suggest you begin to use the card - getting clips into the PC is as simple as using explorer 'copy n paste' when the card is plugged in to the (probably using a usb connected card reader).
Otherwise, a strong suggestion is to get a new camcorder which does use removable media to store recordings.

Sorry for not responding sooner - have not been monitoring the topic
I already have version 436 64bit Ultimate and it does not like my PC - numerous and frequent crashes, sometimes freezing up and various other issues
Back using VS 18 and no issues so blessed if I know David, perhaps like others I need to do a complete fresh install?
Never had anything like these issues with VS18 and only limited problems with earlier editions- usually of my own making
