VideoStudio Ultimate 2019 - Corrupt Project File?
Hello,
I'm at wits end right now. After spending about 6 hours working on a video project, I am now unable to open the project file. When I try to open it in 2019, the progress bar will go through its motions and then go back to '0% Please Wait' at which time the spinning blue icon will appear and the system will hang.
It only does this with this one particular project file.
Is there ANY way to recover a corrupted project file so that I don't have to remake this?

I'm not sure what each progress bar is when a project loads, but I watched it again and the progress bar goes from 0 to 100% very quickly the first two times and then the 3rd time is where it sticks on 0% Please Wait and hangs the system.
When the system hangs, only a hard reset using the button on the tower will restart it. CTRL ALT DEL has no effect.
Currently working on rebuilding the video project as best as I can from memory.

I'm afraid if the project file is corrupt, you won't be able to recover it. Doing it again is your only option. But make sure you save it using a different name every so often so that you will then have various files to choose from if something goes wrong again later. Then you will only need to open the file you created just before whatever it was went wrong...

Re: VideoStudio Ultimate 2019 - Corrupt Project File?
Well, I rebuilt the project file and can now successfully open the 2nd version of the same video.
However: Now that the project is completed, whenever I try to render, Videostudio closes. I even saved the file in VS2018 format and tried to render using 2018.. Same problem. Hit start and Videostudio pauses for a moment then closes.
At. Wits. End.
Please help.

Re: VideoStudio Ultimate 2019 - Corrupt Project File?
Here's the steps I have taken so far in trying to figure out what is causing videostudio to crash:
1. Erased all my proxy files related to the video clips used in the timeline.
2. Started a new project and placed each clip used in this product into the timeline one by one. I tried rendering each file individually. Each will begin the rendering process.
3. Removed every transition between clips and tried to render.
None of these things allowed me to render this video project. Every time I try to render, VideoStudio closes without any displayed errors.
Thinking it might possibly be related to project size, I opened a video project I did last week which was slightly longer. It will render without issue.

Re: VideoStudio Ultimate 2019 - Corrupt Project File?
Clearly from your evidence, this is a project file problem: as an older vsp renders OK.
You said that each clip will 'begin the rendering process' but does that mean it completes OK when inserted into the timeline - alone? Basically a project file of one clip.
In your problem project file, against each track there is a disable button at the extreme LH end of the track display. Hover mouse over it, label appears. Disable each track (video, overlays, text voice music - all of them) one by one and choose render - to try and identify which track is causing your render issue. having identified the track, you can then work toward isolating the specific item which is the "issue". Having found it, fix it - either remove it or do what you want a different way - and try rendering the whole vsp again.

Hi wcsd106
Corel did provide a fix for problems opening project files, you can download from this topic.
viewforum.php?f=88
Of course I don’t know if this will fix your problem but worth a try to see if the original project will now open.
Although your posts does seem to indicate it’s a specific content of the project rather than a corrupt project, maybe a daft thing to say as both result in a corrupt project.
Anyway try the hot fix

Re: VideoStudio Ultimate 2019 - Corrupt Project File?
Thanks for the link to the file. I had actually used the videostudio cleaner file last night to uninstall and reinstall VS2019 and had the installer download the files again. Even with that, I was still unable to render the project without the program crashing.
So, what I did was to open a notepad window, write down each individual file in the project with the clip timestamp for start/finish.
I created a totally new project and proceeded to insert clips, cutting them down to the appropriate length by timestamp.
Fingers crossed, it is currently rendering at 1080p60 and has already reached 6% in the time it's taken me to write this post.
I'm not sure what the heck happened, but if this renders correctly, I will definitely be glad to have finished this project successfully. This is the first time I've EVER had any issues with VideoStudio.
I think it's probably time to format the SD cards in my GoPro cameras though for good measure. I had been concerned that I possibly had a corrupt video file even though they would all render individually.
Must have been a gremlin somewhere that I just couldn't shake.

Re: VideoStudio Ultimate 2019 - Corrupt Project File?
Hmmm . . .
One of the settings in rendering is usually 'don't render files already in the right format' (smart render), so a corrupt video clip (the right filetype) may squeeze thru all of your tests until you come to render all the clips together and possibly in a slightly different end format, in which case smart render won't apply and VS will (try to) convert it for the end result. At this point a corrupted clip will cause problems.

Re: VideoStudio Ultimate 2019 - Corrupt Project File?
Thanks, David.
In this case, I was able to use the same clips and render correctly in the end. Not sure what happened to make the program bug up, but thankfully that project is over with.
