Video Rendering Times in Videostudio 19

Post by Paul33 »

Hoping somebody can help me out here as I'm only moments away from giving up on Videostudio ..... which I don't want to do having spent so much time learning the editing elements.

I am trying to create a video using about 50 short video clips from my mobile phone ..... all in HD but not 4K.

The video project lasts about 35 minutes and has 1 video track, 2 audio tracks and 2 title tracks. It has about 25 transitions between clips. Estimated output size is 3.67GB.

I am trying to create an MPG using the "Same as first video clip" setting which is 24bits 1920x1080 25fps.

I started the rendering NINE hours ago and I'm currently at 86% and it appears to be slowing down as we go ...... I'm not convinced it will reach 100% !

I rebooted before rendering and have had nothing else running on the desktop PC.

PC spec is Windows 10 Pro 64bit, Intel Xeon E5430 @2.66GHX x2, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX1060 6GB.

I am rendering to a solid state drive.

I do not have "enable hardware encode acceleration" ticked as I don't understand it or what I should tick.

That's it !

Should I not expect better speed than this ? Am I doing something obviously wrong ?

Any help appreciated !

What FX's are you using in that project?
It's the first time you use the software?

No FX anywhere. One clip has a small colour adjustment and that's it.

Been using Videostudio for a few years but most projects are 15-20 minutes and render in less than 20 minutes ..... same settings.

I have suspicions about the "share" screen in this version (VS 19 Ultimate) because when I select the share tab after editing, the share screen takes around five minutes to appear and that can't be right.

I raised this with Corel Support many weeks back and have reinstalled the program (twice), cleared all cache, checked all drivers are up to date and still it takes five minutes to render. Support seem pretty clueless on the matter and just keep asking me to reinstall and I've given up on them after two reinstalls !

Depressing stuff !

PS: I gave up on previous render after 10 hours and a further 10 hours still to go. I'm now trying again with CUDA acceleration flagged as I have a CUDA enabled graphics card. I'm at 26% after 40 minutes but I fear it will slow down again !

If you are a VS veteran so why you use VS2019? save the project as older version and run it there.
Is the FX you use is NB tuneup ?

Sorry ..... not sure what any of that means !

Do you mean abandon VS2019 and go back to using an older version of the software ?

Not sure what you mean about FX !

Try rendering at a lower res to see what happens. Try 720x480, 30p, 2.5Mbps and time it.

Tried rendering at 720x480 and it had reached 64% at the two hour stage but was slowing down so certainly several more hours if it was to make 100% at all.

I have tried removing various tracks and have concluded that ......

Video track on its own - renders fine
Video track plus the two audio tracks - renders fine
Add in the two title tracks and it hardly moves

I decided to render the video with the audio tracks to create a combined MPG and then added the title tracks to the unified video/audio MPG and it also hardly moved.

Conclusion seems to be that the title tracks are the problem

The title tracks deliver a brief title top left (track 1) and bottom right (track 2). Both titles have a text background at 50% opacity and both have animation to fade in and cross fade out.

I guess I need to try the text without any animation or background but even if that works better, all I'm doing is depriving myself of the editing options that I paid for ..... which is crazy !

Being rendered in MPEG 4 as it needs to be of decent quality for viewing on TV.

I don't get what you mean about other VS ? I have VS 2019 Ultimate, I don't have previous versions as they were all wiped when I upgraded.

Buying VS2019 at an upgrade price does not automatically remove previous versions. Many of us here have multiple versions of VS, all of which work. Earlier versions can only be removed manually by you. If you haven't removed them, check in Control Panel > Programs and Features to see if an earlier version is still there. If not, do you still have the downloaded installation files and Serial Number of an earlier version?

As for your problem with titles, which program did you use to make them? If one of the titles happens to be right at the start of the project, that may be your problem if it is not in the format you want for the end video, yet are using Same As First Clip...

All the titles are from within Videostudio ..... nothing unusual being used.

In the end, I went through every title in the project and removed all title effects which were text background colour and cross-fade animation. After that, the project rendered so the problem was/is the effects added to the text but why that is a problem is beyond me. I will try and find older versions of VS but its a new'ish machine so I doubt I'll find them and VS2019 was a clean new install.

Hi Paul
Do you still have the original project file that contains the problem titles.
If so can you attach to your post
You will have to re-name the file to use .txt as its extension as the forum does not allow vsp.
We can look at your titles to see what is going on here.

There is a tool called Customise Motion, I generally use that to animate the titles rather than using the titles editor animation options.

Hi Paul
I have not used titles to this extent generally a few at the beginning and ending of my movie but multiple titles do appear to take a long time to render.
Not having your video files I modified the project to contain only the titles.

1 / Running a test to render the first 10 minutes took 33 minutes using both 2019 and X10
2 / I then added my own MTS video files and rendered “same as first clip” taking a very long time to complete at 1 hr 10 minutes and only achieving 68% I gave up and cancelled the render. Pressing ESC did that in fact so well that Video Studio 2019 crashed and disappeared from my desktop.
The rate of render did appear to slow as time went by.

3 / As a comparison I then rendered only the video clips this took 2 min 45 sec.

4 / back to using titles only -- I removed all animations to render again – 6 mins 30 sec
5 / Added cross fade – replaced all backdrops with png image -- render ¬¬-- 12 mins, a bit of an improvement to “1” above.

Smart Render was used in all tests.

I’ll have another later go but don’t think I can improve much more unless BCC or 3DT titles render faster?

Been trying things for four hours: replace vid track with jpgs, remove video, voice, sound in various combinations, etc. Seems text is taking up a lot of rendering time but not sure why. I have a short (5:30) music track with a fair amount of lyrics as text that takes a similar time to render.
