Smart Download

Post by steve-s »

Initial version Trial removed, and VS9 installed from CD, manually updated to patch 1 off the Ulead website

Do you need to configure Smart Download??

When I try the smart download feature I get a box with Select the items below that you want to update ................. get more detailed information.

The box below this information is blank

If I try the Update button I get a message that disappears very quickly but looks like there may be a download bar there? and then a box with a yellow warning triangle "Download Status" Downloaded 0 files. Not downloaded 1 files
When I press OK a box appears saying Cannot get new content information

Am I missing something or should there be No new content

Everything is on the CD. The extra content via the Smart Download is only for those who downloaded the program.

This is just plain ridiculous, and I'm just about fed up with the "smart" download. There is nothing smart about it. It should have been named Dumb downloads, for dummies like me, that purchased the ESD version, instead of the boxed.

Ok, I had a major system crash a couple of days ago. I started noticing some problems when trying to add audio to the audio track. It would take a long time to add it, then when I tried to save the file or preview VS9 would freeze up, CPU jumped to 100%. I would have to use task manager to shut VS down. Then all of a sudden my machine rebooted and things went downhill from there. So I wound up doing a reformat, reinstall, and this is the cleaniest install of WinXP I have seen. Went wonderfully. Then I install VS9, first application. Goes great. I then try to install the content files, and wham, CRC errors, not just one, but about 3 per file. NO GOOD. So I decide to download the content files. Again no good, more CRC errors, file whatever doesn't match the setup's.cab file.
I re-install (clean) about 4 times, and not able to get a content file that doesn't have a CRC error.
I then email Tech support. They respond with links to download all the content files. Now I'm using DSL broadband, running about 2Mb. Why does this tech support guy provide me with a ftp link that runs slower then dial up? I mean get real, download 750mb at 20k? If I was using dial up, that's different, but I do use broadband, and do not expect to or need to wait for 4 hours to download 1 file. Then he provides a ftp link, with no password. I guess he thinks this is pretty funny.
I realize and am aware of the past posts in defense of Ulead, by various members here, and respect that. But Ulead is the only, and I repeat the only software that I have experienced the terrible quality of programming. I have tested/tried hundreds, and not once had to go through this.

I'm getting real, disappointed...

Edit:
To test to see if it may be on my end, I downloaded from a couple of other sites, and my d/l was normal, around 300KB/PS...
So why would Tech support provide the slowest possible download link?
I'll bet this tech is laughing his *ss off...
