Suddenly ran into the same problem with a very long startup.
It turned out, that blocking the 'phone home' to Corel was the problem.
Must allow access to Corel site 23.78.47.220 and possible 2.23.141.32, 23.56.184.75, etc.
Blocking the Google sites access seems OK.
Now PSP 2020 starts instantly to the Edit mode.

You can say this again. But Corel is not listening. I really wonder if they really care anymore? I have seen no evidence at all of Corel CS support even being aware of the screaming masses of users. It's like then just want to sell their software and have no desire to develop a loyal user base.

So I thought I would give 2020 another try to see if Corel has worked out some of the kinks. OMG! It is insanely slow! It takes me like 30 seconds just to switch between tools. I click "Resize Image" and have to wit 30 seconds or more for the window to open. And the Text tool, is way worse! I feel like I am working on a 1990s computer running Windows 95! Is this happening to everyone?

I really can't believe that Corel seem to have no interest in getting their products to work properly.
Why do they not read what people are saying and come on this forum to help sort these problems out.
Once they release a version of PSP they offer no updates unless there is something drastically wrong, they keep expecting us to pay for the next version in the hope that things have been fixed.
Well, Corel, I paid for X5, X8, 2018 and 2020, all Ultimate versions and the only one which has ever worked with no hassles and no problems is X8. Version 2018 was a total waste of money because it was completely unusuable and I continued with X8 until I bought 2020 which is stupidly slow to load and will not restart after closing, causing the need to do a computer restart to get it reset.
If Corel started taking an interest and issued updates to help solve these problems then I, and most other users, might have more confidence in them but as it is, this is the last version I'm buying.

Hi Keith,

I've also replied to you in this topic: https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?p=379668#p379668 (along with lata, and possibly others by the time you read it). We give you a probable solution, so you don't need to restart Windows.

Now to the main subject of this topic, I have my own gripes about Corel and PSP (expressed in various topics), but starting times of PSP 2020 are not an issue at all for me. Actually I am quite surprised so many people complain about this. It takes just 8 secs for PSP 2020 to launch, and my machine is anything but top-notch (built like 3 years ago: Win 8.1, AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 16Gb RAM, plain Sata3 HDD @7200rpm).

Keep in mind that a gazillion of plugins, brushes, etc do slow it down (it makes total sense). Maybe it is also a matter of fine tuning its settings. For example, I do use the scratch disk settings, i do use the fast undo, I do not use Auto preserve, etc. Also, I do not use the organizer, I do not use any Indexing and Rating settings, I do not associate PSP with any other file type except for PSP (I can always use Windows explorer's "Open with" for other file types), and I do not use the Manage tab at all (I have only the Edit tab enabled).

I really don't know why so many people complain about extremely slow starting times.

I'm with @migf1, although I do use the Manage tab to open my images in PSP (not the Organizer at the bottom of the Edit workspace) although I don't use Collections at all which can really slow down the opening of PSP if you have lots of stuff catalogued. And I'm using PSP 2019 but when I trialled 2020 I did find it a bit slower to load than 2019 but not unbearably so. And as you can see from my profile I don't have a super system by any means.

Process Monitor was a useful utility from Sysinternals, which was bought by MS. Process Monitor was then made available free. But this all was a long time ago.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

I agree. PSP 2020 is so slow and not very intuitive that I have reverted to Jasc PSP to get things done quickly - in fact unless you are a graphic artistic with a very high spec computer, corel psp is a poor substitute for Jasc PSP

Yes, and not only it's slow for loading.

As title says, is awful slow to respond...

Everytime I press the "text button" to insert/modify a text, it holds the system about 3 seconds, and seem to send a "refresh" call to all internal components (as they seem to repaint)

Yeah. It does this with everything I do, even if it is just drawing a single pixel or showing/hiding a layer. And the longer I've been working, the slower that becomes. Add to that the autosave taking several seconds and locking up the UI fully. Every 10 minutes or so, I have to close and restart PSP entirely. And that's with a file that's under 1MB in size at a resolution of only 320x160 pixels.

It's been this way since at least X3 (I've had PSP7, PSP8, X3, X4 and 2018) and tbh, I'm considering going back to PSP8 just because the later versions I have are completely unresponsive. Every time there is a new version, I hope that they've fixed this. This thread shows me they haven't and that 2020 (and probably 2022) just aren't worth the money :(

I don't understand that either. I went from PSP 8.1 to 2018 and don't see much difference in launch time. I'm running 2018 on 3 laptops - all different models.
Lag is something I've not experienced. Two of those are now running Windows 11. PSP is still running well. One thing I will mention is that if you are running 3rd party software AV/ Firewall, etc. that may slow things down. Windows has had built-in security since Windows 8 that works just fine.

It's slow everywhere. I just tried to do my first "Batch Process" on a bunch of photos with some custom scripts that I use. On X9 it takes about 5 minutes per photo, so my 51 photos will usually take about 2.5-2.75 hours depending on what else I'm doing on the computer at the time. Using 2022 and barely running anything else it took almost 8 hours for it to process that batch of photos. Looks like X9 is going to be my go to for those occasions at a minimum. The more I'm using 2022, the more I appreciate x9.

Note: Wasn't paying attention to the topic. I thought we were complaining about 2022, sorry.
