PSP is 2020 is awful. Slow to load slow to respond. Anyone

Post by jungleexplorer »

I just upgraded to 2020 and This program is horrible. It takes like forever to start up and basically slow down my whole system, which is a pretty fast system. Is it just me or is everyone seeing this?

It depends on what you consider to be slow. I think mine is also pretty slow: on a fresh reboot of the computer, it takes 25 seconds to open PSP 2020 Ultimate to full usability. Subsequent reopenings in the same boot take 10 seconds. I too like to think that my computer is pretty fast. I have similar delays with Corel Video Studio. I only have one other image editing program on this computer and it takes a whopping 55 seconds to open the first time. Other video editing programs I have also take some time to open in excess of the Corel times. Other non-image or non-video editing programs open almost immediately.

I don't like it but have grown used to it. In PSP, the opening time may be slowed down if the program is trying to canvass all your stored images before opening, in effect rebuilding the database. It may also depend on whether you are opening in Manage, or in Edit with the Organizer set to show a small folder of photos...

This has been debated many times here over the years. I'm sure others will have their own opinions.

I use another RAW editor called Capture One. It starts in a 4th of the time PSP starts. I always have PSP start to EDIT as the PSP photo album manager is crap. I use the old Picasa program for album management. PSP 2020 take longer than any other program on my computer by a substantial amount. VSP 2019 starts in less than half the time. My main hard drive is a Samsung EVO 970 M.2 drive which is one of the fastest drives in the world. It rates faster the 99% of all other drives according to a Passmark Benchmark test on my system. So when I say my system is fast, I am not just blowing smoke here. But it is not that PSP takes forever to start. It causes my whole system to lag during startup. Even basic mouse functions become laggy during the time PSP is starting up. Other programs freeze up as well. I have 30 GB graphically intense video games that I can run, while rendering 4K videos in VSP, and my system experiences NO lag while running these functions simultaneously, but just starting PSP 2020 brings my system to a screeching halt. Are you kidding me? There is nothing about this image editing program that should be that heavy on a system. It's just bad coding. I am thinking of downgrading to X9, because that is the last version that I feel had the least amount of problems.

I get 19 seconds for first opening and 8 for second opening of PSP 2020 64bit. But then I have accepted all the defaults in installing the program - both 32 and 64 bit versions, install on C drive, use Edit mode and opening a small Desktop test folder with about 20 images. Also use free AVG virus , free Zone Alarm, Malware Bytes, and Spybot Search and Destroy .

It takes longer than that for me to close the program. Something must be wrong with my installation. I may try to reinstall it. I did not install the 32bit version.

Mine is also slow.

I have an AMD Ryzen 2700x, 32GB 3200Mhz DDR4, 512GB NVMe, Nvidia Geforce 1080.

It takes 26 seconds from pressing on the icon until the program loads up, this shouldn't be the case.

You got that right. It is slow, it won't shut down completely and it is laggy in use. I think I am downgrading back to X9. That was the last stable version. I just wonder if Corel even cares anymore.

So I downgraded to PSP X9. Man! What a difference! Starts up in less than 10 seconds, works fast, shuts down fast, and GUESS WHAT? You can RESTART it! You know how you can't restart 2018 or 2020 after you shut it down, without having to kill the process in the task manager? Well, not with X9.

Yeah. I want my money back. Over on the Dpreview forum, they have all confirmed that 2020 is garbage. Corel needs to issue a recall on this program and go back to the drawing board. It is really a shame that a company like Corel would put something this bad out.

I found 2019 very slow am now trialing 2020. Sure it is slow to start because we all want additions & enhancements which Corel give us. Am waiting for 2021 to trial then I'll get a new PC.

I have the same experience.
using process monitor from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysint ... ds/procmon
it says it is hanging waiting for response from here:
g2a02-26f0-0104-038b-0000-0000-0000-0342.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com:http
it seems to timeout after a few seconds
it connects this site 50 times!!!!
the trace is below

this is unacceptable and we need to turn this off - if we could then it would start very quickly.
Of course if it can get through to the URL then it does start quicker sometimes.

Re: PSP is 2020 is awful. Slow to load slow to respond. Any

try turning your internet off before you start - you will find PSP 2020 starts in just a few seconds
once you have proved that to yourself then just disable the apps connectivity in your firewall and all will be well
when it starts it's phoning home constantly and the web site it's talking to:
akamaitechnologies.com
is not responding very quickly
this is VERY VERY VERY POOR programming, COREL you should be ashamed of yourselves!
