Hello, I do a lot of photo editing and restoration work thus the keyboard mapping allows very quick switching of tools or other keyboard functions that are used a lot. When hours and hours are spent doing editing you would be surprised how much time is saved by using the keyboard, so if it is not working the program is useless for saving time in one’s workflow.

Hi jrmach,

Thanks for sharing that information. At least we know now that there is not going to be a fix for this issue. I agree it is frustrating! Because it is not like a new feature or anything. This was working fine and it got broken in PSP 2020. It should definitely get fixed with a Service Pack!

Anyway, the workaround does work. It can get a little less tedious if you put the Load Workspace icon on one of the standard toolbars, or the menu bar. Or record a little script which loads a specific workspace name, and put that script on a toolbar/menubar (this would work as a 1-click loading, if you save your customizations to the specific workspace the scripts loads). If you have more than 1 customized workspaces, you may want to make a load script/icon for each one, or at least for the most commonly used ones.

Someone posted earlier to open psp by double clicking the saved workspace *.pspworkspace file or create a shortcut to that file. I tried that and psp seems to retain the info for a longer period of time compared to other methods. If I load the workspace from inside the loaded program the shortcuts disappear shortly after and have to be reloaded.

I use the personalised/customised shortcut keys a lot to speed up my workflow in PSP.
This is functionality that has been around ever since the Jasc version. And so it is very disheartening to learn that they are not going to fix this issue until the next version is released.
I have used PSP for years. I recently had to buy the PSP 2020 version as my laptop was stolen and rather than fight Cleverbridge for a new link to my old PSP 2018 download I decided to get the newer version.
I was very unimpressed when I discovered that the customised shortcut keys were no longer working.

This is what I use them for:
Tools: Assigning a shortcut key of "W" to the Magic Wand selection tool. This makes for quick switching between the Magic Wand selection tool and the regular selection tool "S". I use this the most.
Tools: A shortcut key of "ALT+R" for the Colour Replacer Tool, again to switch to this tool quickly and on the fly without having to move my pointer to the tools bar and dropdown selector.
Image: Shortcut key combo of "Shift+Z" for the Canvas Size dialogue.
Layers: Shortcut key combo of "ALT+M" for the Layers, Merge, Merge All (Flatten) option. This saves three mouse moves, two clicks and one hover. A no-brainer.
File: Shortcut key combo of "ALT+C" to bring up the File, Import, From Scanner or Camera dialogue box. Also a massive time saver.

Again, this is all about speeding up my workflow and the repetitive actions.
Anyway, I hope this explains why I am so disappointed that the fix is not being treated as a priority for the 2020 product, and quite frankly it has given my pause for thought as to whether I should just bite the bullet and shift my allegiance to Adobe and their CCS.

Why not ask Cleverbridge about your PSP 2018?
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

I just want to add my support for this fix. Something that has been working since at least version 4 of PaintShopPro and is a critical part of users' workflow should not be pushed off to a major release but fixed via a patch or update. Failing to do so shows a flagrant disregard for the time of PaintShop users and Corel customers.

Keyboard shortcuts improve workflow efficiency exponentially and to just disregard them like this is beyond irresponsible. The keyboard placements of some of the default commands is physically challenging/impossible to execute with one hand (repeat/control+Y for one example, close/control+F4 for another) repeatedly, and when processing a large batch of photos being able to use reassigned control+Q and control+w respectively saves significant time and hand strain. I'm extremely frustrated and downright disgusted right now.

Hi jmarch,

Both of the suggested workarounds should revive the custom shortcuts without time limitations. Using a shortcut of the workspace on the Windows desktop saves a few clicks, but it has some shortcomings, which may or may not be important, depending on your workflow. For example, if you load .pspimages by double-clicking on their files, on the Windows explorer, they will open in PSP but the custom keyboard shortcuts will not be there. You will have to load the Workspace anyway from inside PSP. Plus, you can neither assign .pspimage to the workspace shortcut file on the desktop, nor drag & drop image files on that shortcut, to open them.

The other workaround requires loading the saved workspace(s) every time you run PSP, and it is annoying indeed. But it doesn't change the workflow for people who are used to open images in PSP by double-clicking on them, directly from the Windows explorer. Also, with very little effort, the required clicks for loading any specific workspace can get reduced to just 1 per workspace.

Here is a short tutorial on YouTube, showing both workarounds for this specific issue: https://youtu.be/JB-C1yNjrVA

In both cases, the custom keyboard shortcuts should be working fine.

Thanks for that vid link, very helpful. It well help in the meantime, but Corel should still fix this right away. If something is broken from a previous version it should be #1 priority to fix or give me my money back.

That was a very helpful link and tutorial video! I have implemented the script solution and it works quite well. Great community service, right there!

I still firmly believe that Corel should fix this issue for their PSP 2020 product though. And here is why...
Let's say I walk into a car dealership to buy a new car. I head straight for the make of car that I like. I've driven it before. I like all the extras it has. Particularly the climate control which remembers the settings that the owner has set for their personal comfort.
But then, after paying my money to the dealership, I drive the car to my house and as soon as I switch it off it forgets my climate control settings.
When I complain, the dealership says, "Oh but wait, there is a workaround for this, everytime you get into the vehicle, you just have to open the cubbyhole, see, and then that forces the climate control to load your favourite settings again. And don't worry, this issue will be fixed in the new model!"
How many of that model car do you think the dealership will be selling?

You are welcome guys! I am totally with you, Corel should definitely provide a hotfix patch or something, for this issue in PSP 2020.

Yeah... another believer.... maybe if we get enough Corel will do something (probably not as it seems only the masses count).

Just upgraded to 2020 and thanks for the workaround - that's a live saver - but wow - oh dear - what a nasty bug. I'd be absolutely crippled if I couldn't use my familiar shortcuts. I think I started using them somewhere around the Late Jurassic Era so, as you can imagine, they're fairly well burned into my brain by now.

Hoping for a permanent fix in one of the updates!

I always change Ctrl+V to paste a new image rather than paste into an existing image. Makes much more sense to me, and I feel like that's how it used to be years ago in PSP.

I also map Ctrl+M to merge all layers so I can do that quickly.

Can anyone confirm if this bug was fixed in PSP 2021 or 2022?

PSP 2021 is currently available in a Humble Bundle, so wondering if it was fixed.

Thanks.
