How to use mask creator to change backgrounds
Hi
I want to use mask creator to remove the background seen in this little model railway clip.
https://youtu.be/oYiU0XHvaKo
The area where you can see curtains, wall, and blank backing board.
I'd like to replace it with a sky effect etc.
I've had a play with mask but am not making headway.
Please could someone assist?
The effect I am trying to get is show very well in this video at 13:35 https://youtu.be/hhRRIrBo3as?t=815
Many thanks indeed.
Mike

Re: How to use mask creator to change backgrounds
It's a static shot why you need mask creator ? do the mask in any paint editor and apply.
you've done so before, I think

Re: How to use mask creator to change backgrounds
Hi
Adi, it is a video file, yes the background is static, but the video will contain a lot of frames and each will need a mask, transparant parts.
Mask Creator should do what you want
Draw a mask over the top section of the first video frame
There is an option to copy that to other frames by typing in the time code
There are three icons used to scan, I think it was the right hand one, not on my pc at the moment....
However there was a problem which limited the time to 59 seconds.
There was a post relating to this
There may be a way to use Chroma Key to create your own video mask as a black and white bmp, to apply to your video.
You would have to use psp to create that image, although VS may be possible.
Need to think about that option

Re: How to use mask creator to change backgrounds
Hi Mike
Use the mask to remove the sky from your videos first frame.
You can use the rectangle to select large areas then the brush and eraser for the details
As the background is static you can choose Still which will apply that mask to all frames
You may have to use Invert, depending on how the mask is applied.
Choosing Save As allows you to give the mask a name and saved to
C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\X10.0
The mask is also available via Mask and Chroma Key – Mask Frame
Ok Will return to the timelines with the mask applied
A bit of a learning curve and trial and error.
How long is the video?

Re: How to use mask creator to change backgrounds
Thanks Trevour, do you know how long I spent clicking the 'x' top right trying to close that lol
Video will be around 15 mins and from multiple angles, this was just an example.
I find the mask looks very ugly once applied, very uneven and obvious.
Guess I'll need to work on it

Re: How to use mask creator to change backgrounds
Hi Mike
One option using PSP..........
I used PSP to remove the sky and fill with Black, then fill the foreground with White
Saved as BMP, this is a black and white image used to create the mask.
Added the BMP to the Chroma Key - Mask Frames to apply to the image
You would first create a screen shot of your video, using that to create the mask so the size would match
By the way are you using X10 as your profile shows?

Re: How to use mask creator to change backgrounds
mask creator dosen't work even with a single JPG image you took with your 40Mpix camera. we have yet to see any of our respectable forum members to link us to YT clip with mask creator result.
Mike, in your very controlled close set only good chroma key is the way to go.
