Missing video clips on the time line
I opened an older VSP-project and it looked like it would open normally. But to my big surprise I did not see any video clips on the time line, only a black and white line indicating that the clips are missing. The original videoclips are in the same place (external hard drive) as they were when I last edited the video. Nor can I find any references to what video clips should be there. Have I deleted something fatal? I have not saved the library. I have a new laptop but the letter of the drive (where my footage is stored) is still the same. Is there anything I can do?

Hi
Clicking on the first clip should give you a message to re-link the clip
At the top of that window should indicate the file it is looking for.
Do you get that message
Take a note of the files name and do a search to see if the file exists on your system.

Re: Missing video clips on the time line
when you choose to Relink the pop-up should give you the exact location of the file which it thinks is missing - if you choose to do the first in the timeline first when you have relinked that if nothing has been moved then VS will automatically re-link all clips and display a message to that effect
While your external drive may still have the same drive letter it may be that your new computer sees something in the file path slightly differently and so ignores it

Re: Missing video clips on the time line
Hi
I, too, thought/hoped it would work like that but unfortunately no. There are no re-link messages to be seen anywhere. I know that the .VSP file still has that information, because I can see the video file names run in the text banner, when opening (or exiting from) the file but I cannot find any way to get to the information to be able to re-link. Guessing would be one but not a very effective way to do it. And besides, there should be no need to re-link, because the files have not moved anywhere. Not all my project files have lost the connection to video clips but to many of them.

Re: Missing video clips on the time line
Thank you so much, now it is working!
I was expecting that CVS would automatically prompt for missing links, but it doesn’t. I have choose File, Relink and then I can relink. Unfortunately it seems that for some I have link each clip one by one, but I think I can live with that.

Hi
It may be that your preferences have changed
Press F6 to open Preferences, at the top left is Re-link Checking, is that option selected.

Hi
The automatic re-linking started to work when I was about half way of re-linking the first project with missing links
. I checked the preferences and they are ok. Now re-linking is working automatically from the beginning of the rest .VSP-files with missing links, too. Thank you all so much, you saved my day.
