Hello, all I am trying to do is select an image and move it. So I use the lasso tool and select part of the image I wish to move. But when I go to move the image it makes a new layer and copies the image I have just selected instead. How do I stop it from auto making a new layer and copying my selection?
Thank you.
How to move an image?

Re: How to move an image?
Are you referring to the fully destructive way Microsoft Paint moves selections? Erasing the data underneath, moving the selection, and then overwriting the data (deleting it) where you drop the selection?
Okay, don't use the pick tool or move tools to move the selection. Make sure you still have the selection tool active, make sure the mode is set to "replace" then click inside the selection and drag it away. This will create a floating selection. But that's just to let you move it around, it will delete the area (background layers will be filled in with the background material, raster layers will just be transparent), and then you can move the floating selection layer anywhere you want. Finally dropping the selection (Ctrl + Shift + F) effectively merging it with the background and overwriting the data that was there.
