viewing thumbnails in a grid-style psp6x

Post by miltk »

so i've been using the old psp and i wanted to browse 6x which has been on my computer for a few years.

i have a couple of questions...
1...in the manage tab, how do i view my thumbnails in a grid style. right now, the default grid style is by date by day. i don't like this "layout". i have over 2000 images collected over a period of 15 years, so often i will see only a few images on my screen. like this,,,,
Image

i want to see ALL my images like this in the old psp style

Image

also in the manage tab,,,,why is drive c\program files greyed out. i want access to see program files, not program filesx86

thx all for your help
ps,,,i know i can do it in the edit tab, i was just wondering if i can in the manage tab and why not

Down the bottom just above your Opera icon - your zoom control affects the size of the images and the number you can fit on the screen. Play around with that to get what you need.
As to Program Files v Program Files (86) I see your profile says you are still using Windows XP. Can you confirm that?

i have w7 pro

the zoom button only reduces the size of the thumbnails. it does not become a multi-image grid layout. the layout is defaulted to creation date by day, so i do get multiple images if they happened to have been added in the same day but that's useless to me. i see at the bottom i can change the order by "folder" but i cannot do descending.

also,,very very important. i need to view program files, not program files(x86). because of the nature of another file program i have to store all my images in program files not program files (x86). therefore in corel i am not seeing all my latest images. of which there are an additional 100+ images. i mean,,,i suppose if worse comes to worse i can view everything in the edit tab but i would like it in the manage tag as well

another thought....can i change preferences in the edit tab to automatically open to a selected folder in date/descending/medium icon/hide file names ???

Sorry I missed your Sort by Date Newest setting.
Yes You need to set the Sort by to Folder and it will show all images in that folder in alphabetical order. There are no other sub choices in Folder sorting to allow it also to sort by date.

Also " i need to view program files, not program files(x86). because of the nature of another file program i have to store all my images in program files not program files (x86)."

What is this other program that stores your images in a folder within the program files - how necessary is it. Can you copy those image files to a temporary folder on your desktop and access them there through PSP X6 and its organiser.

You also mentioned "i have over 2000 images collected over a period of 15 years, so often i will see only a few images on my screen."
If you have those images with different created dates and want them to be in the order of date created and still have the total thumbnail space filled , you would need to change your naming system to one that includes the date at the start, or place them in separately dated and named folders.

I have over 630000 images taken over about 17 years and right from the start I had to work out a naming system that would allow me to locate images quickly.
I started by using the date as part of the folder name eg 020918firsttests, 020920canefires etc in year month day system. This provides a unique number for each folder whether the images taken on the same day or different days.

I then found that I might take 500 images on the one day of tw subjects one shoot in the morning and one late afternoon so then it became 030212abrooke , 030212ajessy.
If I needed to distinguish which one occurred in the morning then I might add an additional letter eg. 030212ajessy, 030212xabrooke - where the 030212xabrooke then occurs lower down the list then the 030212ajessy.

I also name the separate files inside those folders including the date eg.brk030212a001, brk030212a009 etc. That allows me to have as many as 999 images in one shoot and keep them in shoot order.
That way I do not need a program such as PSP to put them in any particular order. If I do place different images from different shoots in the same folder then they are arranged in alphabetical order and if I have done a number of shoots with the same model / subject then they will be automatically sorted into order with the oldest first .
eg.
brk030325a006 ,
brk030402a003,
brk030212a009 ,

if placed in the same folder would automatically sort to

brk030212a009,
brk030325a006,
brk030402a003

All three images were taken in 2003 but in different months - February (02) , March (03) and April (04)

thx for the reply. my "other" program, although it's had updates i stay with an older version, works seamlessly in various windows OS's if i install the program itself in the C_drive and link the image source folder in program files not (x86). so when i add new images they go in program files. since the old psp is in the same folder i can do everything i want and go back and forth in that setup.

there might be a better way to do it but i'm a knucklehead and this way is what i've been doing for 20yrs. i am going to pm you.

One nice thing: old (even back to Jasc) and new (Corel) can exist and run simultaneously. Thus, you can have your cake and eat it too!
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.
