Trying to create a video file for Sony DVP FX980
I have a Sony DVP FX980 portable video player that takes a USB memory stick. It seems somewhat picky about what videos it will take and I've narrowed it down to MPEG4 files...but not even all MPEG4 files are recognized and some that are recognized don't play well...sound is not in sync with the picture.
I have Corel Video studio 12 on an older computer and I can use the Zune MPEG4 (640x480) format in it to create video files that will play and keep the sound in sync with the pictures. But I can't figure out how to do that in Corel Video Studio PRO 2018.
So, I have to first render the files on Video Studio PRO 2018 using a special format I created...
MPEG4, 24 bits, 720x480, 29.97 FPS
Frame-based, H.264 High Profile Video 4000 Kbps, 16:9
48000 Hz, 16 bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps
Then, I transfer those files to the other computer that has the version 12 on it and re-render them as Zune MPEG-4 (640x480). This creates a fairly compact file that plays perfectly on my Sony DVP FX980.
My question is, what format can I use on Corel Video Studiio PRO 2018 that will match the Zune MPEG-4 (640x480) format? I don't see that specific option nor have I been able to create a format that is 640x480 or that will play on the Sony DVP. It either doesn't recognize the file at all, or the sound doesn't sync with the picture.
Thanks.

Re: Trying to create a video file for Sony DVP FX980
TheDVP is not picky at all, if you read page 21 of the manual.
I think you issue is with H.264, in VS change to H.263 and I think it will be OK.
Or you can do Xvid avi's that are just as good.

Re: Trying to create a video file for Sony DVP FX980
Here is what page 21 of the manual says, re video format for DVP FX980
In the table:
Video MPEG-4 (simple profile) ".mp4"
Then, below it has some notes:
- Some video files cannot be played
- The player cannot play a video file of size more than 720 (width) x 576 (height)/2 GB
-The player may not play certain video files that are longer than 3 hours.
None of my files are ever more than 720 x 576 and none are anywhere's close to 3 hours. Mostly a few minutes.
There doesn't seem to be any other guidance. On the surface, it isn't true that it plays "MPEG-4" files at least not all, or the many I've tried to produce that are both compact and watchable on the small screen. I have generated many kinds of MPEG-4 files that it doesn't read at all...gives a data error message. As I said, if I transfer my files to the older computer with the older version and then use Zune format, it works.
When I made the change you suggested in the setup I described...changing H.264 to H.263, then yes, the DVP FX980 did recognize it, but the image quality was absolutely terrible...unwatchable. Now granted that could be due to some other settings I choose, but I don't know which ones. I guess I could experiment with a bunch and see what happens.
Thanks, I'll keep experimenting.

Re: Trying to create a video file for Sony DVP FX980
I am not sure if anyone monitors/reads these threads who has any kind of interest in actually supporting Corel VideoStudio and making people want to buy updates. Above, I outlined my struggle to deal with the fact that an updated version of Corel VideoStudio (2018) no longer seems to have the capability to allow me to render videos in the Zune format like the 12 version does. I received one response and I appreciate it, but it didn't really help me solve my problem. If I can't find a way to make newer versions of Corel VideoStudio do what I need them to do with regard to producing video files that are both compact and readable by my Sony DVP, I guess I'll venture forth and try to find a video editing app that does do what I need it to. I'd be sad to leave Corel VideoStudio, because I'm familiar with how it works.

Zune was discontinued in Nov. 2015, so it would be understandable why Corel no longer supports that format, can't imagine that many users of this forum would use Zune, or have even heard of it.

Re: Trying to create a video file for Sony DVP FX980
why it must be mp4? I wrote you that Xvid avi's will play just as well.
Have you tried the other mp4 codec the m4v-ASP?
And last thing, we are not from Corel, so if you can get better results elsewhere why to suffer. (I see you use W10 than you suffer enough)

Re: Trying to create a video file for Sony DVP FX980
Hi rizdek
If the Sony DVP FX980 is a portable DVD player then it will support Mpeg2 as that is the format for burning discs.
Have you tried rendering your video to Share Mpeg2
A 1 hour DVD will be approx. 4 Gb at 8000kbps, as you say there is a limit of 2 Gb you should try rendering using a lower rate or reducing the duration of your movies.
If you have Corel Video Studio 12 then why don’t you use that to convert the video to use Mpeg4 and Zune

Yes, I tried avi and tried all the settings I could find and the file was too big...e.g. 5 minute clip was ~1 gb, so that would not be useful for what I need even if it worked. I like to put a few dozen movies on a 64 gig chip to watch and the Zune format creates small files that work well on the small screen of the Sony player.
I tried all the various mp4 settings I could find...most would not play and those that did were not of good quality. I guess I was curious about what, specifically were the settings of Zune files which worked.
I realize most of the contributors to this thread would not be corel employees, but I thought maybe they monitored or occasionally checked the posts. I was hoping my post would attract the attn of one of those people. I might try to seek tech support from Corel, but the window for free tech support might be closed. I don't know.
Thanks for your response, I'll go back and try m4v-ASP.

I did try MPEG2 and it didn't even recognize/see the files much less play them. The manual does specify Mpeg4, so it's understandable it wouldn't recognize the mpeg2 files
And yes, that is what I do...use 12 to create the Zune files, but I was hoping to find a way to duplicate those kinds of files on this later version because the 12 is on an older computer and I do most of my work on this newer computer.
Thanks for your response and suggestions.

I realize they may not have "Zune" itself listed, but was hoping to learn what the specific settings were for Zune, so I could duplicate them in the newer versions of VideoStudio. I'm sure Zune was not created FOR the Sony DVP, but the files work. They are compact, play well with nominal picture quality and the sound is in sync with the picture. Thanks again for your rsp.

Re: Trying to create a video file for Sony DVP FX980
Hi
I assumed the device played DVD discs and as such should support mpeg2, it is those types that is required to burn a DVD,
Although multiplexed to Vob files at 1 Gb, even so basically Mpeg2.
It does seem strange that you appear to be limited to the zune codec.
If you no longer use X2 / VS12 on the old pc there is no reason why you cannot install on the new pc.
I have VS 12 running on Windows 10, not sure if it is fully functional but should render ok
There are 4 options using VS 2 for Mpeg4 zune, which one did you use?
I assume Zune MPEG-4 (640x480) and not Zune H.264 (640x480)
One uses mpeg4 SP video the other 264 option uses H264 Baseline, I assume the latter does not work for you.
Ok using 2019 try this……
1 / From Share choose Mpeg4
2 / Hit the + symbol to create template, Give it a new name
3 / Compression tab – Video Type – M4V-SP, it is the top option and the lowest quality, or try the M4V ASP
4 / General Tab – Set your frame Size I assume 640 x 480????
Similar to MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 640 x 480, 25 fps
Frame-based
MPEG-4 SP Video: 4000 Kbps
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps

rizdek, you got large AVI file because you fail to select a codec, you better get Xvid as I guess you don't have...

Thanks for the reply and advice. I will try that. Now, the download page doesn't work, but it might be a temporary outage...I'll try again later....nevermind, it DID download despite going to a page that suggested the page I was trying to access didn't open. Again...Thanks!
