Could you give us more information?
- A screen capture of the defect would be nice.
- Are you in Grey mode? (black and white)
- Is your image in 16bit?
- Are you cloning inside an Adjustment layer?

Did you try a reset (launching PSP with shift key down)?

I have the same problem using PSP 2022 and 2023, both 32 vand 64 bit- have you found a solution? Resetting the database does not work for me.

This could be a re-draw issue. Does zooming in and out of the image remove the marks?

I don't think it'll work bu you could always try turning on full window redraw. File -> Preferences -> General Program Preferences.

Under "Miscellaneous" you'll see a checkbox for "Force full window redraw when positioning image elements"

Yes, zooming in or out removes the marks, but full window redraw makes no difference to the problem.

File -> Preferences -> General Program Preference ->Display and Caching: "Use Precise Cursors" appears to have fixed the problem, at least for now. I'll continue to use this setting and see whether the fix is permanent...

After behaving well for some time, the problem has returned. Precise cursors is not the answer.

I've tried to replicate your issue but have had no luck so far.

Here's one more thing to try and eliminate by resetting the clone tool itself. Click on Presets on the Tools toolbar and then on the curved arrow as shown below.

Don't know if it could help:
Try untabbed mode:
In the top menu, click on Window / uncheck Tabbed documents

I have the same problem leaving tracer marks when using Clone Tool in both PSP2020 & 2021. I think it started after a Windows Update (not sure). I've tried everything I know. I did not read any solution or did I miss it? PSP also has been changing my mouse setting?

With the clone brush have you tried turning off "Show Overlay"? It's once again not guaranteed to fix the issue. The problem is this is an issue with your computer and how PSP works with it. It's not a universal problem and there may not be a fix we can offer short of turning off brush outlines which isn't very helpful.
