Copy Paste Stopped Working 2020 2019

As of yesterday copy/paste no longer works in either 2020 or 2019. I tried using shortcuts, menu drop down, nothing works. Copy is highlighted but Paste (all options) is greyed out. Windows 10. Tried re-boot and updates but still can't copy/paste. Am now working in X9 because it's the only version it works in.

UPDATE: PSP X9 stopped copy/paste functions now. Someone please help. I have orders and can't make previews without some form of copying. Tried dragging to canvas, that doesn't work either.

Does the document/file you're working on have more than one layer?

Oh my files have MANY layers! I do a copy/merged usually but I'll take anything at this point. I'm now working in X6 - it's my last hope to get this order done

I would recommend trying to reset PSP to factory defaults.

As you have two versions of PSP I'm assuming you know how to reset PSP. If not here are the instructions:

File -> Workspace -> Save Workspace (give it a name you'll recognize)
Close PSP
Hold SHIFT and double click on the PSP icon on your desktop to open PSP again (keep holding SHIFT)
It'll ask if you want to reset to factory defaults, select Yes.

Can you copy and paste now?

To restore your workspace go to file -> workspaces -> Load Workspace

My other suggestion is see what PSP puts on the clipboard when you copy. You can use the program "FreeclipboardViewer" found here - http://www.freeclipboardviewer.com/

This program will show you what is on the clipboard when you copy, it must be a valid format that PSP understands for it to be pasted in.

Isn't there a checkbox in something that allows us to copy & paste in just this layer vs all layers?

Thank you LeviFiction for the idea, I will give it a try tomorrow and let you know if it works. I sure hope it does because of course I never sell my layered files, so I need a merged version and without copy/paste I'm not sure if there is another way. I have purchased every PSP since 1998 and currently have X6 thru 2020 installed and ended up working my way down until I found a functioning version which turned out to be X6

Well it worked for about 5 minutes but then stopped copying. I tried to install the ClipViewer but it kept freezing up during install. If I can't get this fixed I am going to have to switch to Photoshop as I can't run my business if I can't get one layer copies of my files.

Do you have an earlier version of PSP? I know I would do anything to avoid the Adobe tax.

Thousand of people are using PSP without having a copy/paste problem so it is perhaps something weird in your PC.

I had a problem with my installation of PSP 2018: when I had an image open, ctrl-a did not select all of it, as PSP had been doing for 20 years. Since I save all my Workspaces as named & numbered workspaces, I reverted to an earlier one. It worked! So I added back what I had added between the two and PSP still works.

All I can say is sometimes a complicated app (and PSP is a complicated app) can miss a beat. Sometimes reverting to an earlier version helps.
