Nikon D90 capture issue

Post by flayio »

Hello,

I purchased VideoStudio Ultimate 2019 a few weeks ago aiming to do some stop motion animation with my Nikon D90. Problem is that, when I select "Capture" > "Stop Motion" (with my D90 already turned on and connected to a USB port) the software simply quits after lifting the camera mirror.

Anyone already had this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

PS. the same behavior occurs when I select "Capture" > "Capture Video".

Hi flayio
And welcome to the forums
Apologies for the delay in our replies, I guess not many use Stop Motion
I have just tested using my Canon DSLR and once I managed to get the camera recognised it worked ok with no crashes
I had to turn on the camera then select Stop Motion, the camera was activated by the program, I could then set the durations and number of frames
When finished created a .UISX file that could be played on the main edit timelines.

If using the Nikon D 90 for Stop Motion does the panel indicate a Nikon Plugin as my image shows for the Canon.
Or does it crash before getting there.
I assume you have the camera switched to taking an image and not video recording?
I can only suspect that the Nikon D90 is not supported and you should contact Corel Support

This is a bit of a wild shot
Corel did provide a hot fix where projects would not open resulting in a crash
You could try applying this fix which is simply replacing the HerDocdll file.

I have to say I did not have this fix applied to 2019 when i tested Stop Motion

Download the file from this post

Hello Trevor,

Thanks for the help -- unfortunately the hot fix didn't work.

Regarding your first question, no plugin info is shown on the panel since the software quits abruptly before anything happens.

I've contacted support, but the guy I'm taking to asked me what file format I was using (I'm not sure he will be able to help me...).

Anyway, thanks again!

Hi
Not the question I would have expected from Corel
You could ask if the Nikon D90 is supported by the program.
Even so if it is not supported there is no reason to crash the program, a message would be more appropriate.
Ask Corel to read this post, maybe the image I provided will help?

And if you needed the program specifically for Stop Motion then you could ask for a refund, depends on how much you paid of course.
Or keep the program for its other features and press Corel for a fix.

Hi flayio

Just wondered if you have made any progress
I came across a Stop Motion tutorial that interestingly was using a Nikon camera the “Nikon DSLR Plug-in” clearly showing on the SM panel.
https://learn.corel.com/tutorials/how-t ... ion-video/

and if the Corel Support guy still does not understand your problem, maybe this would help him.

Hello Trevor,

Believe it or not, it was exactly that tutorial that made me want to purchase VideoStudio! :)

And regarding Corel's support, I'm still waiting for their feedback...

Thanks anyway Trevor, it's very kind of you to keep trying to help me!
